Physical: Developing, wiry 5-foot-11, 160lb frame with high level athleticism. UMASS Lowell commit ran a 6.77 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, wider attack as the hands operated by the shoulder to begin. Utilized a short lift and replace stride out towards the pitcher to initiate the bat head through a flat, direct path into the hitting zone. A smooth chest and calm head positioning allowed for quality bat to ball skills, matching pitch plane early in the swing with ability to hit for average at a high rate. Notched a T90 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak (via Trackman) with doubles power available from gap to gap. Mature hitter that will find his way atop the order eventually, grinding at bats and handling all quadrants with confidence.
Defensively: The primary shortstop demonstrated natural reads off the bat and a quick crossover step, ranging with banana routes in either direction. Slick glove hand work, operating in/out of the glove with a quick exchange. Released directly to the target from a H ¾ slot up to a 79 mph arm strength with consistent pace. Then slid to the OF with some CF projection, attacking the ball with a loose glove hand and athleticism in space. (82 mph arm).
6/28/21
Physical: Lean, athletic 5-foot-11, 160lb frame with feel for his body. 6.79 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, even stance with the hands starting loose above the shoulder; utilized a short lift and replace stride to initiate the bat head through a flat, fluid path. Clean, natural technique that produced good bat to ball skills and some rotational strength to the pull-side; stayed inside the baseball using correct sequencing in the lower half and notched an impressive 58% line drive rate. A T90 mph bat-exit velocity suggested doubles power in an extra-base hit approach working up to a near 340 foot batted ball distance (via Trackman) during his batting practice round. Top of the order consideration moving forward.
Defensively: The primary shortstop operated with rangy actions at a lower posture, holding pace and momentum over the front side after fielding. Gained a shuffle in-line to the target and released accurately from a H ¾ slot, able to shorten up when needed and work in/out of the glove (78 mph arm, quick actions).
7/06/20
Physical: Well proportioned, lean 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with some strength in the actions. 7.44 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH. Balanced, even stance with the hands showing rhythm at the ear.. Utilized a repeatable leg-hang stride with stretch back to the shoulder in the load for the timing mechanism. Entered the hitting zone through a slightly uphill barrel path with feel for extension. Found plenty of barrels to all fields during a quality batting practice round which saw him work gap to gap primarily. Recorded a 90 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball with high level bat to ball skills.
Defensively: The primary shortstop arrived to the baseball on time with regularity demonstrating a low center of gravity and range to either side. A soft glove hand allowed for smooth and repeatable transfers showcasing the ability to throw from multiple arm angles. Made the play on the run with relative ease while the arm played through a high ¾ slot with a moderate takeaway across the diamond. SS - 77 mph .. Working out in the OF as well, displayed a feel for footwork in any direction getting behind the ball and playing downhill through it towards the destination. Fielded the ball off of the front left foot on the ground and featured quick transfers to the throwing hand. OF - 74 mph.
2/17/20
Physical: 5-foot-9, 140-pounds. Tall lanky frame; able to hold more weight. Run: 7.05 runner in the 60. Hit: RHH. Tall stance; feet are even with shoulder width apart; short leg kick into a smooth stride; slightly open and tends to close himself off when striding out Hard line drives to the middle of the field and pull side; long and high one-handed finish. Power: 84 MPH raw exit velocity. Shows pop to middle of the field, really lets the ball travel and squares it up; consistent contact. Defense: INF: Tiny prep hop for timing; choppy footwork would like to see it a little more loose and smooth; moves well laterally; hands do a good job of attacking the ball out front OF: attacks the baseball hard; fields the ball out on glove foot side; nice pro step. Arm: 3/4 arm slot; long arm swing. INF - 77 MPH. OF - 76 MPH.
