6/13/18 A righty swinger that starts in a tall, open setup, Movements are athletic in load, putting him in a balanced position at launch. Swing has some natural loft with strength being apparent to hands. Ball jumps off the barrel and he will use both gaps. Middle of the lineup type bat that squares the ball up often. At third base he plays with fluidity and under control. An above average athlete for the spot with good actions. Arm is loose and ball comes out well with enough arm for the left side.
5/30/18 Van Winkle showed up noticeably leaner while gaining physicality since the last time we saw him, translating most obviously to his swing. Batspeed and strength were both improved and he was able to generate more effortless juice. Drove both gaps in BP with signs of power starting to show. Worked out at shortstop where he showed reliable hands and mechanically sound feet. Although fit still looks to be at third base in college he looked more than capable at short on this day.
