4/07/19
McGuin, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound catcher/third baseman for the Toronto Mets impressed in the field and at the plate on Sunday. He started the day behind the plate where he recorded pop-times in the 2.06-2.14 range. He demonstrated ideal arm action where he is fairly short out back and then gets on top of his throws to second. Getting more athletic in his stance will allow his lower half to work quicker and complement his arm strength which has been up to 76 mph. At third base, his glove actions are raw at this point, but he displays body control while showing the ability to get his throws across with ease. In his BP round, LHH McGuin stayed compact with his body movements, showing the ability to adjust to pitches all over the strike zone with his short, loose swing. McGuin kept his hands back, before coming towards the ball with a flat plane and finishing high, getting the ball in the air consistently. McGuin is an exciting catcher who’s bat profiles well from the left side, making him a must-watch player in the 2022 class.
