5-foot-10, 175-pound athletic frame. The right-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with torso bend and a long arm swing. His fastball was 93-95 mph, flashing command to different quadrants of the zone throughout the night. He also mixed in a two-seam fastball at times that was 91-92 mph. Winn threw two breaking balls, a slider at 83-84 mph and a curveball at 74-75 mph. Both pitches have slurve shape to them with the curveball having a slight bit more vertical movement and the slider having more lateral action. He also had a tendency a handful of times to step across and throw his slider with some crossbody to get more out of it. Also flashed a split-change at 73 mph.
5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic frame with a strong lower half. The right-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with a quick, short arm swing. His fastball was 91-93 mph the entire night, touching 94 mph. Was able to command the fastball to both sides of the plate, especially low in the zone. His slider had 10-4 action and was 74-76 mph, touching 78 mph. Threw the slider to both sides of the plate with the ability to land it in the zone for strikes and bury it in the dirt for swing and misses. Also showed great athleticism fielding his position on the mound.
Stanford-recruit, 2020 RHP/SS Masyn Winn , standing just 5-foot-9, 165-pounds, Winn brought his intensity and electric arm strength to the bump, and struck out eight batters in an efficient five innings of work. The right-hander ran his fastball up to 95 mph on multiple occasions, and sat 90-93 early on in the outing. The fastball played up even harder with his command of a multi-tier breaking, tight-spinning, 11/5 breaking ball (73-75) that buckled multiple hitters as well as an advanced changeup, thrown with fastball hand speed at 79-82. Winn’s competitiveness stands out on the mound, and he fed off the adrenaline brought on from facing a stacked Midwest White Sox lineup. Though he has a slight pause in the arm stroke, his athleticism allows him to repeat his slot with ease,
2020 SS/RHP Masyn Winn (Kingwood HS) is already a household name in the recruiting world. Winn is currently ranked No. 2 in Texas and No. 10 in the PBR Overall Rankings. Our scouting staff has seen him on several occasions throughout last year’s high school season and over the summer. On Sunday, the sophomore did not disappoint, mowing through hitters during his one inning of work. His fastball sat 90-91 mph with late life and gitty-up. His slider is a wipeout pitch 76-79 mph with tight rotation and sharp 11/5 depth. The right-hander also mixes in a 78-79 mph changeup with fastball arm speed. At shortstop, Winn has athletic, smooth actions and threw 93 mph across the diamond. Winn not only has the tools that separate him as one of the top players in the country, but the sophomore is also a true competitor, and the way he plays puts him ahead of his peers.
5-foot-8, 155-pound, fast-twitch frame. The right-hander works from a high slot with a quick, repeatable arm stroke. Although we only got a couple of gun readings off the scoreboard with his fastball at 88 mph, it is easy to see that Winn has a high ceiling with more velocity to come. His curveball was clocked at 73 mph on the same scoreboard gun. Winn also played second base with slick fielding actions, as well as hammering a double off the left field wall. Even though Winn has a smaller frame, he has quickness and strength on both sides of the ball, and he was the first guy on and off the field during the game.
