Tennessee recruit, one of the top pitchers in the state, currently ranked No. 10 in the state’s senior class, standing at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. One of the top performing pitchers in the state since he made his varsity debut, Deering got the start on the mound and tossed 5.1 innings, striking out four batters allowing no earned runs. The fastball plays with carry out of the hand, holding velo at 90-93 mph in this outing missing bats in the zone. Deering spun a sharp and bigger breaking ball at 77-80 mph, looking like one of the best breaking balls in the state, producing multiple swings and misses in the zone working off the fastball plane, flashing a running changeup at 86 mph.

Tennessee commit. Despite being sidelined from throwing for the second half of the season, Deering continued to prove to be an extremely valuable piece to a competitive Kimberly unit, as he hit nine home runs on the season—leading this group of First Team All-State honorees. In addition to hitting for power, Deering hit for average, too. He batted .452 during the season against tough competition, providing 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored from the top of the Papermakers’ lineup. Deering was the spark plug all season long at the plate, setting himself up for a strong senior season after an eventful summer and fall.

An athletic mover on the mound with clear mound presence and competitiveness that he showed across four innings where he struck out six batters. Deering, the 5-foot-11 right-hander worked uptempo throughout the game, utilizing a two-pitch mix that is one of the best in the state. Working in the upper-80s and topping out at 90 mph throughout his outing from a lower release height with a carry fastball that he commands to all parts of the plate. The fastball earned swings-and-misses in and out of the zone and looks to get outs at the next level. His breaking ball also has swing-and-miss action working at 79-81 with sharp downer break. Each pitch by itself stands as one of the top pitches in Wisconsin, together in the same arsenal Deering possesses one of the more electric arsenals in the state.

RHP Sawyer Deering (Kimberly, 2025) authored arguably the most electric outing during Team Wisconsin’s three games of the week. On Thursday, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound right-hander got things started on the mound, and certainly turned some heads. Throughout his stint, Deering sat 87-90 mph and topped at 91.1 mph with his lively fastball that earned multiple swings and misses in the zone. Not only was the sheer velocity of his fastball impressive, but it also possessed 21’ of IVB at its peak, making it play with major ride and carry through the zone. Pairing off of his fastball, Deering spun in a sharp curveball in the high-70s that averaged over 2,800 RPM and played with late bite. He rounded out his three-pitch mix with a low-80s changeup that he used sparingly. The right-hander would finish his illustrious outing with three strikeouts and held a talented lineup to just one hit in his two innings of work. Deering looked every bit the part of one of the state’s top arms, regardless of class, and he is certainly a high-follow name in Wisconsin’s 2025 class. 

RHP/OF Sawyer Deering (Kimberly, 2025) won the day on the mound with a fast-paced and quality bullpen. Standing at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, Deering presents a stocky frame with a strong lower-half. The righty showcased a FB, CB, and CH mix, having a comfortable feel for all three. With clean and fluid mechanics, driving and extending down the mound, Deering rushed his FB up to 88 mph, and sat 85-87 mph throughout the pen. The CB was tight with advanced spin, registering an average spin rate of 2,816 RPM, the highest at the showcase. His third pitch, the CH, which sat in the lower-80s, was a good complement to the FB and CB as a swing-and-miss pitch, as there was fade and depth featured throughout. The former Wisconsin JFG participant continued to show improvement to his craft as one of the top pitching prospects in the state’s 2025 class. At the plate, the right-handed hitter took a quality round of BP; working flat through the zone with easy hand-speed (24.9 mph avg, T25.6 mph) and bat-speed (72.9 mph avg; T77.9 mph). He showed off some pop at the plate throughout his round, reaching up to 342’ for his max distance with a max exit velocity of 92.4 mph.

A representative of Team Wisconsin at the 2021 Junior Future Games, Deering continues to impress. Athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with solid hand speed. Batted leadoff and played RF in the first of ISA Royal’s two games. Deering has a feel for the barrel, knocking a pair of extra base hits which included a towering pull-side home run down the left-field line. Finished the day 2-for-4 with a HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 3 R.

Deering is listed at an athletic 5-foot-9, 160 pounds with wiry strength, especially in the lower half. From the mound, he works in a fluid, athletic motion downhill and maintains progression towards his target. He pumped his fastball in at 80-82 mph early, settling in at 77-79 mph as his outing went on. Deering’s arsenal also features a sharp, downer breaking ball at 67-69 mph that he boasts excellent confidence in – and not only for his age. His ability to land that breaking ball for strikes and in any sort of count gives it authentic swing-and-miss potential as he continues to develop.
