LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - As we recently released our Updated class of 2022 state rankings we thought we'd provide you a closer look at one specific prospect. Rankings are never easy and we certainly know they are not an exact science. Much of rankings is predicated on what our team of scouts have seen, but given the national scope of the Prep Baseball Report network, we are more than able to access a library of over 100,00 players nationwide to compare apples-to-apples.
It's a given that California is either 1 or 1a in terms of talent in any given year. There isn't that much debate as to who the top players are because they've generally been identified at a much younger age. After all, the top players are easily identified. However, given the amount of games, innings, at-bats, pitches our team has seen over the last two years of watching this class, we feel confident knowing that nobody in the industry has seen more players in addition to those easily identified from California than our collective team.
And because of that level of confidence we feel our rankings best reflect the overall talent in the state.
Earlier we looked at left-handed pitchers, right-handed pitchers, catchers, first baseman, shortstops, and second baseman. Now it's time for the top ranked outfielders in the state for 2022 class.

#23 TREVOR SCHMIDT - SERVITE - ARIZONA COMMIT
One of the top left-handed hitters in the class, Schmidt plays the game hard and all out like he did on the football field. While not a burner, Schmidt's instincts and smarts allow him to play fast displaying excellent first step jumps and reads off the bat.
#38 DARRYL DILWORTH JR. - VANDEN - CAL COMMIT
In addition to his present tools - 6.98 60 - 86 OF velo - 89 exit velo - Dilworth Jr. oozes projection on his 6-foot 150-pound frame. Moves gracefully in the outfield with excellent first step quickness and fantastic reads off the bat. Has some sneaky pop at the plate that should continue to develop with physical maturation.
#43 JARON NEVAREZ - SAN RAMON VALLEY - UNCOMMITTED
One of the most sought after recruits in the state from the this class, Nevarez has shown the ability to both hit and pitch at a high level consistently. Shows feel and command for at least three pitches with the ability to throw them all for strikes like he did at the CA State Games last summer. Has added strength since then only adding to the intrigue.
#63 JORDAN LEWIS - ALPHA CHARTER - UNCOMMITTED
Compact and powerful frame that produces loud contact at the plate with present gap power. From the outfield the arm is strong and accurate registering an 88 mph position velocity. Also pitches into the low-80's with movement on the fastball.
#78 LOGAN GIBSON - MODESTO CHRISTIAN - UNCOMMITTED
Gibson showed off his huge arm at the NorCal Preseason All-State registering a 92 mph position velocity from right field shortly after running 6.96 laser timed 60 to open the event. He also jumped on the mound and pounded the zone with a mid-80's fastball that he paired with a projectable changeup.
Of course given the social distance precautions surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, future event dates/locations could change. If there are changes we will alert all registered players and make adjustments to our calendar.
