6/08/21

Cal commit; Lean 6-foot-0 frame, with room to grow, will be fun to watch over the next few years as strength comes.

60 yd: Just standing on the line and awaiting the turn and fire of the back side, good form runner with straight line speed that will help stealing bases as he becomes more explosive. Exhibited burst in the last 30 yards is something to consider in his closing speed, taking extra bases and stealing bases.

OF Def: First step and approach to the ball are immediately noticeable. Starts in an athletic position to get the right hop as well as judge a flyball. Once the ball is caught there is intent to throw a runner out, clean exchange from glove to hand, and with an over-the-top delivery to his target, the ball comes out with ease and on a straight line. His front shoulder stays in line with the base being thrown to, so the ball carries well to the base, with above average arm strength and accuracy to third and home.

Hitting: With a wide stance and hands high, his approach to batting practice stood out. On time and ready for each pitch, made solid contact over and over. He gets his hands in a good position to hit the ball to all fields, it really allows him to be a sound gap to gap hitter. The ball jumps to all fields, and his hands come through the zone and produce that whip-like motion that will drive outfielders back when the strength comes. Solid base with his legs, good rhythm with lower and timing of front foot landing, and back knee to drive forward, he stays long in his hips to drive baseballs.

Summary: Stood out for many reasons, from body type, outfield defense and offensive approach. The Cal commit also has a maturity about him that matters.

1/25/20

NorCal Preseason All-State: Dilworth has been one of my favorite 2022’s for some time and the projection in the frame is starting to take off. You can tell he’s been in the weight room with good added strength showing in the still projectable long/lanky frame. Athletic ability has alway been present and showed up again (6.98 60yd) in every aspect of his game. At the plate he stands slightly opened with a high back elbow, the barrel works flat deep before finishing high with strong direction to the baseball; there was late bat speed that produced easy carry to the gaps and he was able to get the barrel head through to whip some balls to the pullside (87 EV). In the OF, he’s a natural fit for CF with quick bursts out of the frame and allowing his loose arm to show easy carry on the firm, low trajectory throws. Another couple years of maturity and we could see Dilworth as one of the best in a loaded 2022 OF class.

6/02/19

BAWS 2019 - Dilworth shows an impressive athletic, compact frame with quick twitch actions and strong bursts (7.03 60yd); body will continue to strengthen as he matures and chance to be impactful player. Defensively fits well in CF where he can attack the baseball like he did during defensive workouts; compact quick arm fits best in CF but showed growing strength to possible play RF as well (81 MPH). During game showed off his ability to track the ball and get to it quickly taking away hits and ranging all around the middle of the diamond; big time defensive glove future. His round of BP he fought timing issues, but made an adjustment and shortened the barrel up to make some hard contact; quick hands with some length in the barrel leading to timing issues. The swing is quick and aggressive with raw strength in the bat and he’s shown the ability to drive the baseball. Dilworth will make adjustments and continue to advance his skills looking like a highly tooled, high-ceiling player.

1/13/19

PBR Central Valley Preseason ID - Lanky and very slender build on a long, medium frame; high waist and sloping shoulder with very projectable frame that can add muscle and strength as matures. Very quick runner using length in legs and quick feet to run quality 60 yd dash (7.11). Slightly opened, balanced stance with high hands/high back elbow while showing strong posture; hands load back as body coils around back hip with quiet stride. Gets into a strong hitting position and shows a quick bat with loose wrists driving balls through the middle of the field and into the gaps (85 exit velo); stays behind the ball well with some barrel whip through the zone. Defensively showed athleticism in OF with strong footwork getting him in time to throw to bases; average depth in arm with quickness through extension and ability to put the ball on the bag with future life projectable (80 mph).

6/12/18

Uncommitted. Lanky and lean 5-foot-10 135-pound body type, moves fairly fluidly and as he gains strength his tools should start to show up more brightly. Offensively he showed off a disciplined swing, stayed inside the ball well, with good finish through the ball, as indicated by competitive exit speed off the tee. Good balance and stays behind the ball well. As strength comes then the swing is intact to be able to drive the ball gap to gap. Defensively showed off a deep arm action on the backside with some length, which can work for an outfielder. Fair exit out of hand and again, physical strength will definitely add to his arm strength. Moves around like a confident outfielder, possible centerfielder actions. Ran well, especially considering 2022 grad and still growing into his body. One to watch in the 2022 class in the region.
