Class of 2022 Showcase: Preview
July 13, 2020
Prep Baseball Report will host the Class of 2022 Showcase, an open event, on Wednesday, July 15, at Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream, Ill. This event gives our staff the opportunity to get an in-person look at some of the state’s rising 2022 talent.

This PBR Illinois showcase will also provide participating prospects with access to unrivaled technologies during and following the event, facilitated by our recently announced partnerships with TrackMan Baseball, Blast Motion, Driveline Baseball, as well as Vizual Edge. You can read more about those partnerships and how they’ll enhance prospects’ own post-event analysis under the ‘Our Partners’ section of this showcase’s info tab.
ROSTER
Several follow prospects in the 2021 class surfaced at last year’s event, including former Team Illinois Future Gamer 3B Andrew Jimenez (St. Charles North, 2021), who strung together an all-around impressive performance on both sides of the ball. 1B Al Holguin (St. Rita, 2021) and C Kyle Hayes (St. Charles East, 2021) also showed well at this event last year, taking their respective turns punishing baseballs in batting practice.
On the mound, RHP Drew Martin (Mt. Pulaski, 2021) stole the show, touching 84 mph with his fastball and flipping in several sharp curveballs, too.
This year’s roster has talent scattered throughout it as well, including a pair of St. Laurence teammates: SS Jayden Cummings and C Osvaldo Ballesteros Jr. Cummings is a right-handed hitter with a projectable frame, upside at the plate, and athletic actions in the field. Ballesteros, a former Team Illinois Junior Future Gamer, should continue to add more power as he grows into his projectable frame and has an above-average arm behind the plate to pair.
It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen LHP Gavan Wernsing (Stewardson-Strasburg) toe the rubber at a PBR event. The 70th ranked prospect in his respective class, Wernsing touched 84 mph with his fastball last August and flashed feel for both his secondary pitches. RHP Michael Addari (Libertyville) showed well at our inaugural Libertyville Preseason I.D., and he too will be in attendance this Wednesday. Addari’s 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame oozes physical projection and we’re excited to see the potential gains he’s made since we last saw him.
