First Illinois Class of 2014 prospect is off the board

By Sean Duncan

With only a handful of juniors off the board, we now have our first Class of 2014 verbal commitment in Illinois. Quintin Sefcik, a two-way standout at Carmel Catholic HS, has committed to the University of Illinois. Sefcik is currently ranked No. 6 in Illinois’ sophomore class.

Sefcik is an athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound switch-hitting shortstop and right-handed pitcher. Sefcik showed extremely well at last summer’s Area Code tryouts. Sefcik’s arm strength and hitting prowess make him a legitimate two-way prospect at the next level.

In other recruiting news, Brad Bohlen, a Class of 2013 infielder from Marian Catholic HS, has committed to Northern Kentucky University.

Bryan Doherty, a senior RHP from Huntley HS, has committed to McHenry County College. As a junior, Doherty went 4-2 with 37 strikeouts and seven walks in 39.1 innings.
