Future Games: Shooter's Top Pitchers (2024)

Shooter Hunt
Vice President, Scouting

A full collection of talented uncommitted underclassmen have utilized the PBR Future Games as a jumping off point in previous years, and this year’s event appears to be no different. A full cast of breakout stars and names to know across three classes proved that there is no better place to be, and that all roads lead to Lakepoint. Below, PBR”s Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, takes a look at 22 pitchers in the 2024 class that made an impact in his look, and are likely set to make even bigger jumps in coming years.

Ryler Smart LHP / 1B / Pearland, TX / 2024

Smart looked the part of a future starter with a full arsenal of pitches, and created a steeper plane that made it difficult for hitters to get off quality swings. Climbing up over 90 mph, the workhorse, 6-foot-3, 215-pound power-armed Texan pitched mean with a quiet confidence that appeared to demand domination. Bullying a strong lineup with the fastball, the curveball ticked up throughout the outing working 74-75 with occasional tightness, and holding plenty of upside. Adding to his allure as a starter was a faded changeup at 78-79 that profiled well off the fastball. Beyond the pure stuff and physical frame, Smart competed with some Texas toughness that makes it easy to buy in on his upside.
