On Tuesday afternoon, Glenbrook North defeated New Trier 3-0 in a Central Suburban League matchup. Glenbrook North, led by a complete game shutout by LHP Eric Orloff, scored two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth, to earn the 3-0 victory.

Orloff, an Arizona commit, was in full control in the game for Glenbrook North (11-2). An overall dominating performance, Orloff controlled all his pitches, pounded the strike zone to a 75% clip and pitched to both sides of the plate. Orloff ended up twirling a complete game shutout to get the win, allowing three hits with no walks while striking out 17. Orloff recorded multiple strikeouts in every inning and struck out the side three different times. His fastball plays from a touch angle, worked the bottom of the zone and to both sides of the plate and sat 86-88 mph throughout. Orloff’s go-to secondary offering was a sharp 1/7 curveball, that induced a number of swing and misses and sat 68-70 mph. He also showed a changeup at 74-75 mph. Overall it was one of the most dominant performances we have seen all spring.

With the game scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth, junior Ryan Henschel led the inning off with a deep home run to left field on a 3-2 count for Glenbrook North. Spencer Geake followed next with a sharply hit single to centerfield, later stole second and senior Michael Chasanov, a City College of New York commit, drove in Geake with a hard hit single to left field making the score 2-0 at the time. Geake and Chasanov would both finish the day with two hits.

Henschel led off and scored in the bottom of the sixth inning after his infield chopper was mishandled around the infield. The ground ball was thrown wild to first base which allowed Henschel to scamper around to third and another errant throw to third base, allowing Henshel to come all the way around to score the third run of the game.

Junior Dalton Hastings, New Trier's (7-7) starter, went toe-to-toe with Orloff, until his final inning when Hastings gave up two runs. In the second inning, Hastings worked himself into a one out bases loaded situation but induced consecutive soft fly outs to get himself out of the jam and keep the game scoreless at the tim. Hastings went four innings, gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out four. His fastball sat 82-84 mph. He also mixed in a sinking changeup at 75-76 mph and an 11/5 curveball at 70-72 mph.
