Jacobs Sweeps Metamora in Double Header

ALGONQUIN, IL – Jacobs and Metamora met for a true doubleheader Saturday afternoon, with Jacobs sweeping the twin bill 4-0 and 2-1.

Game 1

Jacobs took the first game 4-0 scoring two runs on first and third steals of home. In the bottom of the sixth Adam Kale broke the game open with a bases loaded two run single.

Jacobs starter Evan Liebau was in command from the first pitch allowing just three hits in six innings pitched. Brad Demkovich came in the close out the game, walking one and striking out one in his inning of work. Metamora starter Geremy Guerrero kept the Cardinals in the game throwing five innings allowing just two hits and one run.

Game 2

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Steve Krueger singled to lead off the inning, moved up on a sac bunt and then tagged up to advanced to third. With two outs Casey Dennison reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Krueger to tie the game at one.

In the bottom seventh inning, Nate Meland reached on an error with one out. After a Mike Addante strikeout and intentional walk to Krueger, Daniel Solomon worked a walk to load the bases. Tim Randl fouled off the first two pitches from Metamora reliever Jack Schaffer to fall behind in the count. The next pitched caromed off the catchers glove scoring Meland with the game winning run.

Casey Dennison picked up the win for Jacobs allowing just two hits and one run in seven innings pitched.

Metamora got on the board in the fifth when Jon Brunton squeezed in Will Boettcher to give the Cardinals their only run of the day. Cardinal starter Sam Brace kept the Eagles off balance for 5.2 innings allowing just one run.

Jacobs improves on the season to 3-1 and heads south on Monday to take on Plainfield North in Marion, IL. Metamora falls to 1-5 on the year and will travel to Georgia for the Louisville Slugger Select Tournament starting on Friday.
