Kenosha Preseason I.D.: Infield Analysis

The Kenosha Preseason ID kicked off our Preseason ID tour on January 28. We’ve started our coverage with some Quick Hits and a look at the Stats Posted. We have already rolled out the catching and outfield analysis and today we continue with the infielders. 

Top Infield Prospects

1. Josh Leslie, SS, Westosha Central, 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a strong, athletic frame. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fluid, athletic actions with a clean exchange and soft hands. Plays well on the run. Throws showed carry across the infield at 85 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup with a smooth load. Short stride with good balance. Fluid rhythm with a short, level swing path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.44 runner down the line.

2. Austin Glidden, RHP/INF, Westosha Central, 2019
Wiry loose frame, 6-foot-1, 145-pound two-way player, projectable build. Projects best on the mound, tall and fall delivery, athletically smooth down the hill, works on line, squared landing, athletic finish. Showed poise and feel on the mound. Arm action is loose and quick, high ¾ slot, easy effort. Fastball played with lively arm side run, showed feel for the zone, 81-83 mph. Curveball has sharp 12/6 action, showed control in the zone, 68-69 mph. Good feel for changeup, fading action, thrown near fastball arm speed, 74-76 mph. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, tall upright finish. Line drive contact with some opposite field tendency. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played just as well as on the mound, 85 mph across the diamond. Good body control, athletic defender, soft hands. 4.50 runner down the line.

3. Nolan Kelliher, SS, Middleton, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. Currently ranked No. 74 in Wisconsin. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws showed carry across the infield at 79 mph. Athletic defender with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup with a short stride and average balance. Gap to gap hitter with an uphill swing path. Needs more backside involvement in swing. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.50 runner down the line.

4. Justin Paasch, SS, Wilmot, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. At the plate hits from an open setup with a wide base. Short leg kick stride, closes off on stride. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.36 runner down the line. Defensively has loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fluid footwork with average hands. Threw 81 mph across the infield.

5. Reese Dutton, INF/RHP, Tremper, 2019
6-foot, 155-pound two-way player. Defensively arm played well across the diamond, over the top slot, 81 mph across the diamond. Actions are loose, clean through the baseball, showed playable hands. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, slightly dives to pull contact. Short path, pull side contact, occasional uphill. Fastball topped at 78 mph, sat 76-77 mph, mostly straight. Curveball played with 12/6 shape at times, showed feel for the zone, 68-70 mph. Changeup has fastball arm speed, 72-73 mph.  

6. Danny Osep, SS, Franklin, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. At the plate hits from a tall, open setup. Short, leg lift stride with average balance. Short, level swing path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee.  4.47 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with soft hands.  Plays on the run well. Threw 80 mph across the infield.

7. Ryan Hughes, 2B, Beloit Turner, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. At the plate hits from an open setup with a wide base. Leg kick stride with average balance. Pull hitter with a long swing path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.62 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws across the infield at 82 mph.

8. Cody Horon, 3B/RHP, Union Grove, 2020
6-foot-1, 197-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP with a strong frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and good balance. Pull, power approach at the plate with an uphill swing path and fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.00 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange and average hands. Throws showed carry across the infield at 80 mph. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with regular effort and some rhythm. Fastball has some tilt at 79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 67-68 mph. Changeup has sinking action with fastball arm speed at 68-70 mph.

9. Tyler Swanson, SS, Burlington Central Catholic, 2020
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits form a balanced setup with a wide base. Short heel lift stride with a short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.51 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Quick footwork with soft hands playing thru the ball. Plays well on the run. Threw 78 mph across the infield.

10. Jarrett Ramer, RHP/1B, Kenosha Bradford, 2019
5-foot-11, 155-pound two-way player, average frame and build. Showed advanced arm strength for his age. On the mound delivery works slightly across his body with occasional recoil finish on fastball. Works with some effort, arm is live, quick and loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball tops at 83 mph, sits 80-82 mph, mostly straight, four seam type. Curveball has 10/4 shape, showed feel, 68-71 mph. Straight changeup is firm with fastball arm speed, 77-79 mph. Arm also showed carry across the diamond at 81 mph. Showed natural footwork around the bag, athletic and plays through the ball. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, heel lift trigger. Showed bat speed, uphill path, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.72 runner down the line.

Jacob Bradley, SS, Tremper, 2019
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a thin, lanky frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short leg kick stride and average balance. Short level swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.94 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ slot. Long release with average hands. Threw 66 mph across the infield.

Colin Conyers, 3B/OF, Indian Trail, 2019
6-foot-1, 167-pound right-handed hitting 3B/OF. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg kick stride. Long, uphill swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.00 runner down the line. Defensively in the outfield has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot with a long exchange. Threw 69 mph from the outfield. In the infield has a short arm action, threw 65 mph across the diamond.

Jacob Danielsen, 2B/C, Stevens Point, 2017
5-foot-10, 155-pound catcher, wiry frame. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup with slightly open stance, short toe tap trigger, average balance through contact. Short uphill path, made opposite field contact on a line in BP. 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively worked out on the infield and at catcher. Projects best on the infield with some actions and the ability to play through the baseball, with playable hands. Arm action was loose, 73 mph across the diamond, 67 mph out of the crouch. Posted pop times at 2.47-2.58. 4.86 runner down the line.

Brady Fields, SS/RHP, Badger, 2018
Lanky, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, right-handed hitting SS/RHP. At the plate hits from a balanced, slightly open setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with an uphill swing path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.66 runner down the line. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with a compact exchange. Threw 81 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with easy effort. Smooth rhythm working in line with home plate. Fastball was mostly straight showing occasional running action at 77-80 topping out at 81 mph. Curveball  has 12-6 shape at 63-64 mph. Changeup has sinking action at 65-68 mph.

Noah Glidden, SS, Nicolet, 2019
6-foot-3, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a lanky, projectable frame. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance with a short leg kick stride and fair balance. Short, uphill swing path with fluid rhythm. 78 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.75 runner down the line. Defensively has a loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Threw 71 mph across the infield.

Benjamin Hoyt, RHP/3B, Lakes (IL), 2020
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Fastball flashed sinking action at 68-69 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 55-58 mph. Changeup sat 59-61 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Short, uphill swing path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.20 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 66 mph across the infield.

Kyle Humphres, LHP/1B, Tremper, 2018
6-foot-2, 160-pound left-handed hitting LHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, stiff arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Short stride with regular effort. Fastball flashed sinking action at 71-73 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 61-65 mph. Changeup sat 62-65 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced, open setup with a drop load and short stride. Uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.61 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Threw 71 mph across the infield.

Jack Kuiper, 1B, Williams Bay, 2019
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly open setup with a short stride and average balance. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.56 runner down the line. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fluid footwork with average hands. Threw 65 mph across the infield.

Zach Lamberson, INF, Wilmot, 2019
5-foot-11, 150-pound infielder, thin wiry frame. Right-handed hitter, tall balanced setup, loads hands back, short stride, average balance. Path stays on top of the baseball, short to it with line drive approach. 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, and firm, high ¾ slot, 73 mph across the diamond. Exchange has some length to release. 4.53 runner down the line.

Spencer Lehmann, LHP/1B, Kenosha Bradford, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way player. On the mound delivery works with regular effort, lands square. Arm action separates deep, working through short window from an over the top slot. Fastball is mostly straight, occasional cut, 67-70 mph, touched 71 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, showed better feel of it from the stretch, 56-59 mph. Changeup sinks, 60-63 mph. Left-handed hitter, tall setup with short stride. Short path in and out of the zone, lifting contact favoring pull side. 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed above average actions for his age. Short over the top arm action, 75 mph across the diamond, 4.90 runner down the line.

Jack Maize, 3B, Shoreland Lutheran, 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a drop load and short stride. Uphill swing path with average bat speed. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.83 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with slower actions. Threw 68 mph across the infield.

Eddie Makar, 3B, Tremper, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting third baseman with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from an open stance with a deep load to back side. Line drive hitter with looseness in the hands. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.50 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Long exchange with average hands. Threw 74 mph across the infield. Line drive hitter with a short, uphill swing path

Keagan McCarthy, 1B, Cedarburg, 2018
6-foot, 215-pound left-handed hitting first baseman with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance with a big sweeping leg kick stride. Pull, power approach at the plate with a direct uphill swing path and collapse on the backside. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.54 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high 3.4 slot. Plays thru the ball with solid footwork around the bag. Threw 73 mph across the infield.

Cameron Nahf, RHP/1B, Shoreland Lutheran, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting RHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery working exclusively out of the stretch. Open toed landing. Fastball was mostly straight showing occasional sink at 71-72 topping out at 73 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 57-60 mph. Changeup has sinking action at 65-66 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced, closed setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with an uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.80 runner down the line. Defensively has  along arm action from a low ¾ slot. Threw 71 mph across the infield.

Gianni Passarelli, SS, Bradford, 2021
5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a low handset. Toe tap stride with a collapse on the backside. Long, uphill swing path with some looseness in the hands. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.00 runner down the line. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with a long exchange. Threw 64 mph across the infield.

Carter Perusich, C/2B, Indian Trail, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound catcher/infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Path is short with some lift on uphill plane, average bat speed for age, 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played best across the infield at 77 mph, 70 mph out of the crouch, short over the top slot. Pop times registered at 2.25-2.35. Played best on the infield when on the move, tends to get static on ball s at him, showed body control. 4.44 runner down the line.

Sam Scarlato, RHP/3B, Indian Trail, 2020
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B. On the mound works form a low ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a toe closed landing and smooth rhythm. Works fast and filled up the zone. Fastball sat 73-75 mph. Curveball has sweeping action at 62-64 mph. Maintained fastball arm speed on changeup at 68-71 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Opposite field hitter with an uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.79 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a ¾ slot. Threw 73 mph across the infield.

Ivan Schimanski, 2B, Shoreland Lutheran, 2019
5-foot-9, 135-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance, strides back to even with good balance.
