WINNETKA, IL - The New Trier Trevians played host to the No. 16 ranked Barrington Broncos Saturday morning at Duke Childs Field. It’s been an up and down season for the Trevians and today they handed a hot Broncos team their third varsity loss of the season in shutout fashion. A quick paced game, New Trier took the 4-0 victory in less than two hours behind a quality start from senior Andrew Kost.

Kost attacked hitters early and often showing an ability to throw four pitches in the strike zone, keeping the Broncos offense on their heels. Barrington’s Clark Elliot (Michigan commit) and Max Raynor were the only two runners to reach base through the first four frames, both reaching via infield error.

Barrington’s starting pitcher Sammy Sabatello averted crisis early in the 1st inning when Alex Calarco (Northwestern commit) and Patrick Jodloman each delivered two-out singles hard up the middle. Sabatello then induced a Duke Olges fly out to end the threat.

After a silent 2nd and 3rd, New Trier did their damage in the 4th sending ten hitters to the dish scoring four. The inning saw three walks, two hit-by-pitches, an infield error, a wild pitch and a pinch hit RBI single off the bat of Preston Anderson.

Barrington would not go down quietly. Each of the next three innings the Broncos delivered a hit and a walk, only to be left on the base paths. Six Broncos were left stranded in the final three frames. Elliott clubbed a double deep to right field in the 6th, the only extra base hit of the game.

With runners on second and third in the 7th, Trevians reliever Jodloman struck out Rayth Peterson picking up the two inning save and the home victory.

Broncos reliever Ricky Kanak threw 2.1 hitless innings striking out four, walking one. Kost earned the victory, Sabatello takes the loss on four unearned.
