Troy, IL – No. 19 Waterloo traveled to take on Triad on Wednesday afternoon. Two big innings did in Triad (5-7) as Waterloo (7-3) came away with an 11-0 victory in five innings. The Bulldogs scored six in the third and five in the fifth to put away Triad.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the third. Two of the runs were scored via RBI singles by Jordan McFarland and Aaron Laskowski. Then with two outs, the bases loaded and the score 3-0, Ben Maurer drove a ball to deep left-center field plating three runs. The left fielder went a long way to track it down but the ball ricocheted off of his mitt allowing the bases to clear and Maurer to end up on second.

In the top of the fifth, the bulldogs plated five more runs to put the game out of reach. Kane Osterhage and McFarland both had RBI singles in the frame and scored a run.

Triad never truly threatened Waterloo as RHP Tyler McAlister, a Missouri State recruit, pounded the strike zone and kept the Triad offense off balance throughout the game. McAlister went five innings, allowed only two hits, struck out five and walked one. He featured a fastball that ranged anywhere from 85-89 mph and a tight slider at 79-82 mph. His changeup which he only threw a couple of times was clocked at 80-82 mph with fade action.

The two big contributors for the Waterloo offense were McFarland and Osterhage. McFarland went 3-for-4, two RBI, two runs and six stolen bases. Osterhage ended the day 2-for-3, two runs, an RBI, two stolen bases and a walk.

Gavin Gibbs went 1-for-2 and flashed bat speed in the losing effort for Triad.
