PBR Illinois Player Of The Week: 3B Sam Jones

The Indiana commit, Sam Jones, has been propelling Brother Rice offensively all spring long so far and things were no different last week. The Crusaders took a trip down to Kentucky last week and squared off against some of the best programs in the state, including Christian Academy and St. Xavier. Jones was not deterred, however; he was 7-for-13 last week with a home run, a triple, two doubles and he drove in three runs and scored four times.

That home run snapped a 4-4 tie against Christian Academy and allowed Brother Rice to secure a 7-6 win. The Crusaders lost back-to-back one-run games against St. Xavier over the next two days, but Jones did his best to help energize the offense. Jones was 2-for-3 in their first game with an RBI and he was responsible for their only run scored in their second game against Xavier after tripling and scoring on a sac fly.

Prior to the Kentucky trip, Jones was a key contributor in their huge win over Joliet Catholic. He notched another pair of hits and drove in a run in the win.

There were no easy games on Brother Rice’s calendar last week and nonetheless, Jones was a central figure within their offense game in and out.

For his efforts, Jones has been named the PBR Player of the Week for the week of April 2-9.

Stay tuned for our Weekly Diamond Notes that will be published this Friday. There we’ll take a look at players who narrowly missed out on a Player of the Week honor but deserve some recognition nonetheless.
