PBR Illinois Player of the Week: RHP Tyler Statler

Hononegah senior right-handed pitcher, Tyler Statler, has been named this week’s PBR Illinois Player of the Week thanks to his outstanding performance last week for the Indians.
Statler, a Southeast Missouri State commit, currently ranked No. 38 in the Illinois’ 2019 class, had two impressive starts last week. Last Friday, March 29th, Statler was on the mound for a 1-0 win over East Troy (WI). Statler twirled a seven inning perfect game and struck out an astounding 18 of the 21 East Troy hitters. Statler threw 90 pitches in the seven innings, 73.3% of them landing for strikes.
Earlier in the week, on Saturday March 23rd, Hononegah lost a tough 3-2 game to No. 15 Huntley. Statler started the game, did not allow a hit and struck out 12 hitters in five innings pitched.
On the week, Statler threw 12 innings, struck out 30 batters and did not allow a hit. Below is a video and scouting report from this winter:

Scouting Report (1.13.19): SEMO commit. 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-handed pitcher built with an extra-large, durable frame. Down-tempo, methodical delivery, works on line, shoulders level, square landing. Long, loose, and quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Arm slot leads to heavy, downhill fastball. Fastball, hard boring action, 88-89 mph, topped 90 mph. Changeup, mostly matched arm speed, some fade/run, 81-83 mph. Curveball, occasionally got on top, between 12/6 and 11/5 shape. |
