On Feb. 24, the PBR Illinois team hosted the third-annual Peoria Preseason I.D. at the Louisville Slugger Dome in Peoria, Ill. The event featured over 70 players from high school graduates in classes 2022-25, from across Central Illinois and beyond.

Previously, our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from this showcase, and we published them within our Quick Hits piece. We also shared the event's traditional stat leaderboards, published inside this Statistical Analysis. Later on, we published batted-ball, pitch, and swing metrics and leaderboards that you can find inside the event’s TrackMan Files and Blast Motion Board. 

We’ve begun to roll out scouting reports on each of the players from this event, beginning with the catchers and outfielders, and infielders. It’s the pitchers’ turn today, led by some follow uncommitted junior talent.

Beardstown’s RHP Jacob Pate (2022; uncommitted) has a strong stature and he works at a quick pace; his 88 mph high led the event, too. Fellow junior RHP David Smith (Tremont, 2022; uncommitted) impressed at his PBR event debut, as a 6-foot-5, 225-pound righty with a loose/clean arm action and three-pitch mix.

Additionally, we limited the top-10 ranking below to high school-aged players, but 2025 prospect LHP Talan Hull (Galva) is deserving of a shout-out here. Listed at an advanced 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Hull’s firmly on the radar ahead of schedule after witnessing his feel over a running upper-70s fastball and curveball-changeup offspeed combo that he landed for strikes – and he earned extra attention for his physical left-handed swing as well.
