Peoria Preseason ID: Preview

By: Diego Solares

On Wednesday, February 23rd, the PBR Illinois staff will travel to the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, IL., to host the fifth annual Peoria Preseason ID. This event is open to all current high school grad classes and provides our staff with an opportunity to check in on some of the top players in the Central Illinois area.

EVENT HISTORY

This event has historically provided us with quality looks at high-end players in the state. The first time we saw the number one prospect in the state’s 2021 class, RHP Ben Hess (Charleston; Alabama), came the first time we ever ran this event. INF Sam Antonacci (Sacred Heart-Griffin, 2021; Heartland CC) was a PBR Future Games participant that attended in 2019 and another Future Gamer, INF Bryer Arview (Civic Memorial, 2023), also impressed at this event in years past.

Several players emerged as winners from last year’s event, including RHP Jacob Pate (Beardstown, 2022; Heartland CC), RHP David Smith (Tremont, 2022; Carl Sandburg JC), RHP Wes Hunt (Peoria Central, 2022; Taylor) and INF Trent Koehler (Lincoln Community, 2022; Lincoln Land CC).

There were a few underclassmen that popped at last year’s showing, too. RHP Cole Noreuil (Delavan, 2024) is headed to our Preseason All-State event in a few weeks and ran his fastball up to 85 mph here last year. We’ll see OF/RHP Devan Tupper (Normal University, 2024) at the Lockport Preseason ID on Monday and he’s an intriguing 6-foot-2, 170-pound two-way prospect. Finally, LHP/OF Talan Hull (Galva, 2025) used the momentum he created at this event last February to pave the way for a productive summer and eventually representing Team Illinois at the Prep Baseball Report Junior Future Games.

2022 ROSTER

This year’s roster is full of relatively new faces that we’re eager to get our eyes on for the first time in an up-close setting.

One name we are familiar with, however, is RHP Tanner Spangler (Morton, 2024), who’s a prospect that caught our intrigue across multiple stops last year. Built at a physically advanced 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, Spangler has been up to 83 mph with his fastball in our looks and his breaking ball has occasionally flashed sharp, downer spin off a 12/6 plane. He figures to be a contributor for a Morton squad aiming to return to the IHSA state playoffs this spring and is certainly a name we’ll follow as his high school career progresses.

CHECK-IN PROCESS

In an effort to continue and develop contactless check-in strategies, upon arrival, players will scan a QR Code with their smartphone camera that will lead them to a Google Form. On that Form, players will enter their name (matching the spelling on their PBR profile) and hit submit. Upon submission, players will be prompted to click a link that will direct them to their jersey color and number, located next to their registered name.

ITINERARY

+ Check-in Times: (Subject to Change)
  • All Players: 5:30 pm

  • Catchers will stay for both sessions.

MORE EVENT DETAILS

Click here to learn more about our tech partners that have enhanced our players showcase experience. Partners like TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Vizual Edge have helped both our in-event evaluation process, as well the compilation of our post-event scouting reports – and they're also a tool for our players to learn more about their measured and collected data, that can be applied to improve upon their game.

Finally, masks are strongly encouraged during non-baseball activity. We will facilitate a contact-less check-in. Staff will wear masks throughout the event. Wear baseball clothes; assigned and numbered PBR jerseys will be provided.
