Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Brother Rice 3B/RHP Kevin Biondic

Kevin BiondicThe first week of high school baseball wasn’t very conducive for hitting – or pitching, for that matter. The frigid temperatures, rain and winds, however, have done little to slow down Brother Rice 3B/RHP Kevin Biondic.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Biondic, who’s one of the top unsigned senior prospects in Illinois, is off to a scorching-hot start for the No. 19-ranked Crusaders (6-1). In his first seven games of the season, Biondic has tallied six doubles, one home run, eight RBI, nine runs scored while batting .450.

A top-level defensive third baseman, Biondic has also earned three saves on the mound. He has not allowed an earned run in 6.2 innings, while yielding only two hits and striking out four.

For his all-around performance, Biondic has earned the season’s first Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honors.

“Kevin is a pure gamer,” said Brother Rice coach John McCarthy. “He takes the ball in any situation and battles.  At the plate, he comes through in the toughest situations and gets clutch hits when our team needs them.  Kevin simply competes.”

Last Thursday against No. 19 Huntley, Biondic broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a towering home run. He then nailed down the Crusaders’ 2-0 victory by throwing two scoreless innings of relief. Then on Sunday, Biondic went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI in an 11-2 win over Aurora Central Catholic.

Success is nothing new for Biondic. As a junior, he anchored the offense by batting .413 with a .496 on-base percentage, 14 doubles, two homers, 43 hits and 36 RBI against some of the top pitchers in the state.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Biondic for his hard work and success.
