DE LA SALLE VS KENWOOD - 4/23/22

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

Savion Flowers, OF, Kenwood, 2024
Uncommitted, 6-foot-3, 185-pound, highly-athletic, high-waisted, projectable, left-handed hitting outfielder. Hit in the four-hole and played right field. Put together arguably the most impressive swing of the day, a no-doubt, line-drive, solo home run over the right-field fence. Looks the part in the box, balanced setup with quiet pre-pitch rhythm. Flat path, stays through the zone with leverage to the pull-side at times. Finished 1-for-4 with the solo home run. Ran a 4.47 and 4.51 down the line on groundouts later in the game. High-upside left-handed hitter in the 2024 class.

Khamaree Thomas, OF, Kenwood, 2024
Uncommitted. 5-foot-8. 155-pound, wiry, athletic, left/left outfielder. Played center field and hit in the two-hole. Advanced bat-to-ball skills, athletic hands, stays short and on top of the baseball. Uses the whole field with a line-drive approach. Profiles to stick at the top of an order moving forward. Finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBIs, run scored and a walk. Natural outfield actions, quick first step and above-average closing speed. Arm plays strong from the outfield and could profile in all three spots. Follow left/left outfielder.

DaMaurion Butler, SS, Kenwood, 2025
Uncommitted. 5-foot-4, 150-pound, right-handed hitting shortstop. Started at shortstop and hit in the eight-hole as a freshman. Stood out on the day, especially defensively. Handled everything hit his way and did so with relative ease. Clean, athletic actions, sure-handed and above-average internal clock. Comfortable ranging to both sides, quick release when needed and arm played plenty strong (85 mph at a previous event) with accuracy. Offensively, showed a more repeatable, direct swing than we have seen in the past. Athletic hands, consistently on time and on the barrel. Finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored, a walk and a line-drive single to left-field in his first at-bat. Also, stole three bases on the day. Talented middle infielder to follow in the freshman class.

Joey Barboza, MIF, De La Salle, 2024
Uncommitted, ranked No. 32 in the Illinois’ 2024 class. 5-foot-11, 155-pound, wiry, right-handed hitting middle infielder. Led off and started at second base. Finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Offensively, simple, direct swing, looks to control the barrel and line-drive approach. Ran a 4.54 down-the-line on a groundout. Defensively, smooth, confident actions and soft hands.

Jaden Correa, SS, De La Salle, 2023
Nebraska commit, currently ranked No. 25 in the Illinois’ 2023 class. 6-foot, 176-pound, loose, athletically-built, right-handed hitting shortstop. Got things started for the Meteors with a two-run home run over the right-field fence in the first inning. Also, delivered a two-run double in his last at-bat of the day. Stands in the box with confidence and moxy. Loose, athletic swing, stays through the zone and shows sneaky pop to all fields. Defensively, has highly-athletic actions, soft hands and a strong arm that plays with easy carry. One of the top middle infield prospects in the class.

Angel Castro, DH, De La Salle, 2025
Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 200-pound, thick-bodied, strong, right-handed hitter. DH’d and hit in the three-hole as a freshman. Was leading the team in home runs coming into the game. Relaxed and aggressive look in the box with fluid pre-pitch rhythm. Takes controlled, intentful swings with pull-side tendencies. Strong hands with advanced bat strength for his age. Finished 1-for-4 with a line-drive single to left-field. Also, was on the barrel with authority right back to the pitcher for a 1-3 groundout in his last at-bat. 2025 right-handed bat to follow moving forward.

Kenny Perez, INF, De La Salle, 2024
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 160-pound, well-proportioned, right-handed hitting infielder, currently ranked No. 30 in the Illinois’ 2024 class. Hit in the four-hole and started at third base. Looks to be one of the top uncommitted position players in the 2024 class. Defensively, has all the actions and tools to be a high-level defender moving forward. Plays with ease, confidence and light, active feet. Hands play soft, works from the ground up and ranges with body control. Made a slow roller, run through play down the third base line look extremely easy and routine. Arm plays quick, loose and accurate across the diamond. Offensively, hits with fluid rhythm and confidence. Loose, athletic swing, gets extension through contact and can drive the ball to all fields with authority. Homered over the right-field fence in his first at-bat. Flew out to center field with authority in his next two at-bats. High-follow 2024 uncommitted infielder.
