LIBERTYVILLE VS LINCOLN-WAY EAST - 5/13/23
By Drew Locascio
Illinois/Wisconsin Scouting Supervisor
Quinn Schambow, C, Libertyville, 2025
Uncommitted and currently ranked No. 22 in the Illinois’ 2025 rankings. 6-foot, 185-pound, right-handed hitting catcher with a strong, wide-shouldered build. Caught and hit in the three-hole. Looks to be one of the top defensive catchers still on the market in the sophomore class. Advanced arm strength; arm plays clean, short and quick with carry. Throws play true and flashed sub-2.00 pop times in between innings. Uses his arm as a weapon, routinely trying to throw behind runners and catch them sleeping on the bases. Also, an above-average receiver, soft hands, strong wrists with the ability to present pitches in and around the zone. WIlling blocker and clean out of the chute. Right-handed hitter with strong hands, natural loft through the zone and competitive look in the box. FInished 1-for-4 with a two-strike single back up the middle in his third at-bat. Ran a 4.55 down the line on a groundout in his first at-bat. High-follow uncommitted sophomore catcher.
Cole Lockwood, SS, Libertyville, 2025
Uncommitted, 5-foot-9, 145-pound, wiry, athletic, left-handed hitting shortstop. Started at shortstop and hit in the seven-hole. Steady defender with feel for the game, soft hands and natural infield actions. Handled an awkward in-between hop with all-kinds of spin on it with polish and ease; showed an internal clock and IQ. Offensively, simple, repeatable swing, stays within himself and looks to control the barrel. Spray, line-drive approach with above-average bat-to-ball skills.
Joshua Holst, 1B, Libertyville, 2025
Uncommitted, 6-foot-2, 205-pound, broad-shouldered, physical, left/left first baseman. Most notably known for his ability on the mound but he showed well hitting out of the five-hole and playing first base on this day. Presence to his overall game. Confident, physical tone in the box. Aggressive swings, present bat strength and looks to drive the baseball with authority from gap-to-gap. Finished 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Drove a pitch down and in, into the opposite field gap (into the wind) for a double and one of the hardest hit balls on the day. Impressive frame and skill set for a sophomore.
Sam Calsin, LHP, Libertyville, 2024
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 170-pound, high-waisted, athletically-built, left-handed pitcher. Showed well out of the bullpen for Libertyville. Went three innings of hitless, shutout baseball, striking out four and walking one. Clean and easy, tall and fall delivery, repeats. Short, clean arm action, plays from a ¾ slot. Fastball played down in the zone and to both sides of the plate at 78 mph. Went to a slurvy breaking ball with 1/7 shape and feel. Quality, short, polished look at the uncommitted junior with more velocity to come down the road.
Tyler Bell, SS, Lincoln-Way East, 2024
Pittsburgh commit, currently ranked No. 2 in the Illinois’ 2024 class. Switch-hitting shortstop came into the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning due to Senior Day. Immediately made his presence felt with a clutch one-out double down the right-field line and he would later come around to score. He came up again in the bottom of the seventh and drove a pitch to center field which was deep enough for a walk-off sacrifice fly. Yet another quality look at one of the top juniors in the state.
MAHOMET-SEYMOUR VS MT. ZION - 5/13/23
By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri
Blake Wolters, RHP, Mahomet-Seymour, 2023
Arizona signee and one of the top pitching prospects in the country. Physical, prototypical starter’s like frame at 6-foot-4, 215-pounds. Took the mound for Mahomet-Seymour in an eventual conference clinching win, striking out 13 in a no-hitter, which was his third of the season. Simple delivery, rocks into his backside and stays on it to front foot strike, transfers weight efficiently. Closed throughout, works in line to target and finishes consistently onto a stable lead leg. Continues to produce high-end velocity without needing much effort. Fluid and continuous arm swing that has some length on the backside, finishes clean from a high ¾ slot that accelerates out front. Fastball sat 95-98 mph in the first, pitched in the low-to-mid-90s throughout, touching 96 in the fourth and 95 in the fifth. Easy with life up in the zone at times, controlled waned early but settled in as his outing went on. Threw a tight slider more often than we’d seen from him in the past in this look at 79-82 mph, landing it for strikes with consistency. Manipulated the action to it, creating more vertical break and downer spin as a get-me-over, while spinning it on more of a lateral plane for whiffs. Continues to ascend as a high-end MLB Draft prospect for this year’s cycle, drawing plenty of professional attention each time he toes the rubber.
Blake Wolters
Sam Driscoll, LHP, Mt. Zion, 2025
Lean, athletic 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame. Took the mound for the Braves in a conference game against a tough Mahomet-Seymour squad, not allowing an earned run over four innings of work. Athletic and controlled operation, hands rock over head to start, sits into his backside and stays on it downhill. Short strider, works closed and across his body some. Long arm swing finishes out of a loose, easy high ¾ slot. Fastball comes out clean, touching 85 mph a few times early, pitching in the low-to-mid-80s throughout with late arm-side run. Confident in both his secondaries, landed a slurvey breaking ball for strikes at 69-72 and turned over a changeup to right-handed hitters at 74-76 mph. Threw all three of his pitches for strikes. Also a varsity basketball player and golfer at Mt. Zion. An athletic sophomore southpaw to follow that recently debuted inside our updated 2025 rankings.
Sammy Driscoll
Mason Orton, LHP, Mahomet-Seymour, 2023
Lean, lanky 6-foot, 145-pound frame with thin levers that project. Toed the rubber in a brief look for the Bulldogs before a rain delay canceled the game. Stretch only, simple leg lift to a tall posture at balance, stays closed down the mound and lands in line to his target. Short compact arm draw, loose out front and comes out clean from a ¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball sat on the corners at 82-84 mph for strikes consistently. Ease of operation and the way his arm works suggests more velocity will come soon, especially as he continues to physically mature. Turned over a changeup at 77-78 mph with arm-side run, flashed sweep on an upper-60s breaking ball that played down in the zone. An upside and projectable southpaw to know that continues to produce for the Bulldogs this spring.

RIVERSIDE-BROOKFIELD VS. NO. 20 PLAINFIELD CENTRAL - 5/13/23
By: Kevin Cronin
Tech Analysis, Area Scout
Cooper Marrs, RHP/OF, Riverside-Brookfield, 2024
Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 154 in the Illinois’ class of 2024. 6-foot-4, 195-pound, long, athletic build, highly-projectable with plenty of room for continued physical development. Right-handed hitter got the start in right field and batted second in the lineup. Marrs went 5-for-5 on the day with a go-ahead three-run home run in the ninth inning to help give his team a win over the No. 20 team in the state. Crouched, slightly open setup and loads into backside. Athletic, loose hands with natural loft through the zone. Defensively, tracked down multiple balls ranging to both gaps. Long strided. Upside uncommitted junior to follow moving forward.
Cooper Marrs
JT Augustyniak, INF, Plainfield Central, 2025
Uncommitted, 5-foot-7, 170-pound, well-proportioned, athletic build. Right-handed hitter, started at shortstop and hit in the two-hole. Crouched, slightly open setup, active pre-pitch hands and toe-tap stride, working back to square. Stays direct to the baseball, athletic hands and works gap-to-gap. Defensively, made multiple high-quality plays to the glove side and sh
