Scouting Report

6/11/19: 6-foot-1, 155-pound SS / 2B with a sub-seven 60 time. Indiana University commit who starts in a wide, crouched batting stance with his bat flat behind his head and his elbows in. Has a slow movement in hands during load, a straight in the ball swing path, a stay inside the baseball swing and a level, one-handed finish; 85 mph exit velocity. Generated several line drives during the showcase. In the field, shows comfortability and moves smoothly to the ball. Good glove work when he stays in position; clean transfer; sidearm throw to first; 82 mph position velocity.

5/11/2019 Spring Scout Blog: Uncommitted infielder with a ton of athleticism and potential who has worked his way as a freshman into an already talented lineup for No. 3 Center Grove. Long limbed frame at 6-feet, 155 pounds with room to develop. Moves well at both 3B and SS. Has the arm strength to stay on the left side at the next level; quick release. At the plate Cerny has above average bat speed for his age with some pull side power. Advanced plate discipline for a 2022. High follow in the class.

2/23/2019: Tyler Cerny, SS/2B, Center Grove HS, 2022, 6 foot, 155 pounds, ran a 7.16, had and exit velocity of 84 mph and threw 85 mph across the diamond from SS. Hits with a high leg kick, lands in a great position to hit and generates easy bat speed for his frame. Barrels balls consistently and possesses balance throughout swing. Tyler is very light on his feet defensively with a good release and arm action. Looks like he will stay at SS for some time with his athleticism, skill level, and projection. Tyler is a high follow in the 2022 class.

8/2/2018 Junior Future Games: Cerny’s long-limbed, athletic, 6-foot, 150-pound frame is still developing, but his natural actions on the diamond stand out at a young age. The shortstop crisply and routinely fields ground balls with confidence, and his quick release and accuracy will give him a chance to stick at the position in the future. At the dish, the right-handed hitter has a direct path to the ball on a level plane with current line drive power that will increase with more strength in the future. Cerny has a strong foundation of skills and ability, and should continue to reach his high ceiling as he matures.

7/24/2018: The athletic 2022 MIF prospect stood out the entire event at IU. Cerny hits from the right side uses leg lift as trigger. Good rhythm in swing and stays balanced throughout.  Slightly uphill bat path through the zone that creates good leverage. Showed ability to use the whole field in BP. Squared up multiple baseballs in game as well. Showed above average speed on bases 4.32 H to 1B. In the field showed sure hands up the middle. Easy actions with soft hands, footwork is outstanding playing through the baseball. Throws across the diamond showed accuracy with some carry. High follow 2022 MIF.

2/24/2018: 5-foot-11, 140 pound infielder showcased quick footwork up the middle with a projectable frame.  Lanky, smooth athlete.  Average glove work, short arm action.  Strong throws across the infield, potential plus arm strength. Velocity topped 80 with accuracy.  In the box, he has a short, level bat path.  Stays on plane.  Line drive approach.  Leg kick in load, dives at times. Average use of lower half.  Over rotates.  Spray hitter, used all fields.  Ran a 7.39 60 yard dash.

2017 Junior Future Games - Lanky, athletic two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, smooth rhythm, uphill barrel path, elevates ball. Defensively, athletic arm action, quick hands, smooth fielder. On the mound, low ¾ arm slot, fastball works 73-75 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, some feel, 63-65 mph.
