After dealing with a shoulder injury much of the 2015 summer and fall, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Thompson came back strong in 2016. He consistently showed a fastball in the 89-93 mph range, touching 94-95. One of the biggest questions heading into the spring, other than his health, was his ability to throw the breaking ball. He has shown on many occasions that he can spin it for a strike, showing sharp break and coming in hard to right-handed hitters. The changeup also improved over the course of his senior season, sitting 82-85 with sink and fade. Thompson pitches with easy effort and a quick, clean arm action. He was drafted last June in the 11th round by the Tampa Bay Rays, but decided to attend Kentucky.
