Between The Lines Scout Day: Catcher's Analysis

On January 15, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the the Between The Lines Baseball Academy Scout Day.  Over forty players attended the event in the 2021 to 2018 classes.  

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catchers  from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Catchers

Jesse Ailshire C / 2B / Lees Summit West, MO / 2021

Ailshire is a 5-foot-7 150-pound switch-hitting cater in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 74 mph exit velocity from the right side and a 70 mph exit velocity from the left side. At the plate, similar open stance from from both sides, smooth rhythm with controlled leg lift, loose hands, natural lift on swing, sprayed the ball to both gaps from both side, loose hands.  Behind the plate, 63 mph positional velocity, 2.22 to 2.41 pop times, short over the top release, fluid exchange on time with quick jab step, throws flash accuracy and carry.

Dakota Duran C / 2B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2021

Duran is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.90 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and stall stance, leg lift to in line stride, hands generate level path and quick bat speed, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap approach, some pop to the pull side. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.39 and 2.53, 67 mph positional velocity, feet are aggressive and create momentum to throw, clean exchanges, over the top release.

Hayden Dyer C / RHP / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2021

Dyer is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas 2021 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has an exit velocity of 81 mph. At the plate, starts slightly open, smooth and controlled load into back leg, to tap, short stride, accelerates to contact, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, 2.08-2.24 pop times, 70 mph positional velocity, sits low, high three quarters release, feet and hands work together, throws have carry to the bag.

Grant Howard C / RHP / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2019

Howard is a 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, short stride, quick hands, body stays under control, long levers with lean frame, feel for the barrel, solid consistent contact during batting practice.  Behind the plate, 73 mph positional velocity, 2.03 to 2.16 pop times, quick exchange, over the top release, moves well to block, feet gain ground to throw, throws are mostly accurate with carry.

Ethan Judd C / 3B / Mill Valley , KS / 2019

Judd is a 5-foot-10 168-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas 2019 class.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, strong and compact, short the ball, balanced set up, no wasted movement.  Behind the plate, over the top release, quick catch and throw, fluid momentum through the catch on time with footwork, pop times between, 1.94 to 2.13, 73 mph positional velocity.

Braeden Trondson / C / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2020

Tronsdon is a 5-foot-8 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has a 80 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, short in line stride, has separate from stride, smooth load, body stays under control, quick hands, level path through contact, gap to gap line drives.  Behind the plate, 70 mph positional velocity, 2.27 to 2.41 pop times, high three quarters release, clean exchange, balanced set up with wide base, throws have occasional carry and accuracy.

Jayden Zimmerman C / 1B / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2020

Zimmerman is a strong 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.68 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg lift, short stride, stays slightly open, middle to pull side pop.  Behind the plate, 68 mph positional velocity, pop times between 2.25 and 2.34, over the top release, clean exchange, short jab step with right foot, staggered set up, creates momentum to throw.
