Maryland Preseason All-State: Corner Infield Analysis

This week we will take a look back and wrap-up our three Maryland Preseason All-State events with evaluations on all players in attendance. Players are listed alphabetically and grouped by graduating class to make it easier to scroll through. Today we conclude with a look at the 18 corner infielders.

CLASS OF 2021

 

Noah Barrall 3B / RHP / Salisbury Christian, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6’0”, 180 pounds. Strong, athletic body type. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, square stance. Creates good hand separation with a quick toe tap load and short stride. Attacks the ball with intent using a slightly uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well with good lower half involvement. Short to the ball, maintaining good balance with quick hands and fast bat speed. Great extension through the zone and past contact with a strong one handed finish. Strong middle to pull side approach, lacing balls consistently during multiple BP rounds.    
Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap-to-gap with power present to the pull side with more developing. 
Arm: RH. INF - 83 mph. Longer arm action from a mid to high three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Plays loose with active feet and gets around the ball well, playing through it towards the bag. Fields the ball out in front, funneling it to the belt. Shows good range side to side with clean exchanges and soft hands. 
Run: 4.25 home-to-first time.


Nolan Fridman 3B / RHP / Huntingtown, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6’3”, 170 pounds. Long, lanky, athletic body type. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from an upright, balanced, slightly open stance. Medium leg kick load and short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Showed lightning quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone. Stays behind the ball well, generating solid lower half involvement. Great extension through the zone and past contact finishing strong with two hands. Nice middle to pull side approach, consistently connecting with hard line drives to the gaps and alleys. 
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ball explodes off the bat. Power and strength to the pull side present with more developing. 
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Short arm action from a mid to high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball with relaxed and active feet. Shows soft hands, fielding the ball out in front and funneling it to the belt. Shows good range side to side with clean exchanges. 
Run: 4.37 home-to-first time.


Aidan Greaney 3B / 1B / South Carroll, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session I
Positional Profile: 3B/1B
Body: 6’2”, 205 pounds. Strong, athletic, and projectable frame.  
Hit: RHH. Hits from a taller, balanced, open stance at the plate. Creates good hand separation with a longer stride. Stays behind the ball well with a slight uphill swing path. Creates some lower half involvement, maintaining solid balance with fast bat speed. Gets good extension through the zone and past contact. Solid gap-to-gap line drive approach during BP. 
Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Pull side pop present with more developing. 
Arm: RH, INF - 75 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a mid three quarter arm slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball, fielding it out in front from an athletic base. Rangy, smooth, quick and clean exchanges. Arm works from various arm slots. 
Run: 4.83 home-to-first time.


Jeremy Patchett 1B / 3B / St. Michaels, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: 1B/3B
Body: 5’11, 195 pounds. Strong, solid body type.
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced square stance at the plate. Small leg kick load with good hand separation. Creates rhythm with hands and stays short to the ball with a more level swing path. Quick hands and bat speed through the zone with strong lower half involvement. Stays behind the ball well and swing with intent. Gets good extension through contact and finishes swing hard with one hand. Very nice rounds of BP working gap-to-gap and squaring several balls up. 
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power to the alleys present with more projected. 
Arm: RH. INF - 72 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a mid three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball at first base and fields it out in front. Fundamental footwork and clean exchanges on double plays feeds to second base. 
Run: 4.63 home-to-first time.


Tyler Quade 3B / RHP / Chopticon , MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5’9”, 180 pounds. Strong, solid, athletic body type. 
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, square stance with hands pre-set from the left side. Simplistic swing with a smooth back load and toe tap into a short stride. Creates good hand separation with a slightly uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well, generating some lower half involvement. Great extension through the zone and past contact incorporating quick hands and fast bat speed. Finishes strong with two hands. Nice middle to pull side approach, spraying balls into the gaps and alleys consistently during BP.  
Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ball jumps off the bat well. Power to pull side present with more projected. 
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a mid to high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well, fielding it out in front. Funnels the ball to the belt with clean exchanges after a slight glove tap. Shows active feet, showing the ability to throw from various arm slots.  
Run: 4.44 home-to-first time.


Sean Wright 3B / RHP / Pallotti, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: 3B/C/RHP
Body: 6’2”, 200 pounds. Strong, solid body type.
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched stance at the plate with a wide base. Smooth back load with a small leg kick. Short to the ball with a level swing path. Creates quick bat speed through the zone and gets some extension past contact. Shorter two-handed finish. Worked mostly middle to the pull side during BP. 
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Present strength and power to the pull side. Ball jumps off the bat. 
Arm: RH. INF - 76, C - 70 mph. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarter slot behind the plate and in the field. 
Defense: 2.12 - 2.25 pop times. Replaces feet and showed accurate throws around the bag from behind the dish. Fields the ball out in front and showed quick, clean exchanges in the infield. 
Run: 4.68 home-to-first time.


Jacob Zuniga RHP / 3B / Good Counsel, MD / 2021

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 5’10”, 160 pounds. Strong, athletic body type.
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, square stance. Smooth back load and stride with good hand separation. Short to the ball with a level swing path. Swings with intent and stays behind the ball well. Shows fast bat speed with good extension through the zone and past contact. Stays behind the ball well with some lower half involvement, finishing strong with one hand. Keeps solid balance throughout swing with a strong middle to pull side approach. 
Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph. Throws with short arm action from a mid to three quarter arm slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well with quick feet and soft hands. Works through the ball, fielding it out in front showing clean exchanges and momentum towards the bag. 
Run: 4.56 home-to-first time.

 

 

CLASS OF 2022

 

Brenden Anderson 3B / RHP / Sussex Central , DE / 2022

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5’11”, 180 pounds. Strong, athletic, projectable frame. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate. High leg kick load and stays short to the ball with a more level swing path. Showed quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone. Stays behind the ball with excellent balance throughout the swing. Easy swing with strong lower half involvement. Gets great extension through and past contact with a strong one-handed finish. Really nice gap-to-gap approach during BP squaring up several balls. 
Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power to the alleys with more projected. 
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a mid to high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball and fields it out in front with quick feet. Moves well and showed some range and ability to throw from various arm slots depending on the type of play. 
Run: 4.26 home-to-first time.


Jacob Browne 3B / RHP / Bel Air, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5’10”, 190 pounds. Strong, solid body type. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, square stance at the plate with a wide base. Quick back load and minimal stride. Short to the ball with quick and and quick bat speed through the hitting zone. Stays behind the ball well with a more uphill swing path. Swings with intent and gets good extension past contact and a hard two-handed finish. Worked mostly middle to the pull side during BP. 
Power: 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Showed pop to the pull side with more projected. 
Arm: RH. INF - 67 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a mid three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball well fielding it out in front at third base. Plays with quick feet and showed the ability to make a variety of difficult plays throwing from several arm slots. 
Run: 4.90 home-to-first time.


Luke Crouch 3B / RHP / Cape Henlopen High School, DE / 2022

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5’10”, 160 pounds. Athletic, projectable frame. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. High leg kick load and works short to the ball with a more level swing path. Showed quick hands and quick bat speed through the zone. Swing with intent and stays behind the ball very well. Keeps head down on the ball through contact and generates strong lower half involvement. Gets great extension past contact and finishes the swing hard with two hands. Worked mostly line drives to the pull side during BP squaring up several balls. 
Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Developing power with some present to the pull side gap. 
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball with active feet fielding it out in front. Moves well in the infield showing range and a slight glove tap in exchange. 
Run: 4.91 home-to-first time.


Sean Deaner 1B / OF / Aberdeen , MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: 1B/OF
Body: 5’11”, 195 pounds. Strong, solid body type. 
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, closed stance from the left side of the plate with a bit of a wider base. Hands are pre-set, minimal load and short stride. Short to the ball with a level swing path. Showed quick hands and some bat speed through the zone. Stays behind the ball getting extension through contact, finishing with one-hand. Worked mostly middle to the pull side during BP.
Power: 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Some pop to the pull side with more developing.
Arm: RH. INF - 66 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball at first base fielding it out in front. Showed quick, clean exchanges and quick footwork on double play feeds to second base. 
Run: 5.02 home-to-first time.


Jake Garrett LHP / 1B / Damascus, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 6’1”, 210 pounds. Strong, athletic body type. 
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, square stance from the left side. Short stride with good hand separation. Stays short to the ball with a slight uphill swing path. Showed quick bat speed through the zone with good balance throughout the swing. Strong lower half involvement with good extension through the zone and past contact. Strong middle to pull side approach.  
Power: 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Power to the pull side with more developing. 
Arm: LH. INF - 72 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well with quick, active feet. Works through the ball, getting shoulders squared to the bag. Moves well and showed some range and the ability to throw from various arm slots depending on the type of play.  
Run: 5.07 home-to-first time.


Liam Houghton 1B / OF / Good Counsel, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session I
Positional Profile: 1B/OF
Body: 6’1”, 195 pounds. Strong, athletic, projectable frame. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a slightly crouched, relaxed, balanced, slightly open stance. Smooth back load and stride with good hand separation. Short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Showed quick hands and fast bat speed. Strong lower half involvement with great extension through the zone and past contact. Excellent balance with effortless swing. Ball jumps off the bat, showing a strong gap-to-gap approach. 
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap-to-gap pop present to the pull side with more projectable. 
Arm: RH, INF - 75 mph. Longer arm action from a mid to high three quarter arm slot. 
Defense: Plays through the ball well, fielding it out in front with an athletic base. Showed soft hands and quick feet. Turns and squares shoulders effortlessly to second base on double play feeds. Quick and clean exchanges.  
Run: 4.69 home-to-first time.


Cam Love LHP / 1B / Damascus, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 5’11”, 158 pounds. Athletic
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched stance from the left side. Smooth back load with a small leg kick and short stride. Creates good hand separation with a more level swing path. Stays short to the ball with some lower half involvement. Shows solid balance with good extension through the zone and past contact. Quick hands and fast bat speed with a solid middle to pull side approach. Barreled up ball after ball during BP rounds. 
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Pull side pop present with more projected. 
Arm: LH. INF - 73 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a mid three quarter arm slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well, funneling it to the belt. Fields the ball out in front with a solid, athletic base. Shows soft hands and the ability to square shoulders to the bag on double play feeds. 
Run: 4.51 home-to-first time.


Jeremy Tirschman 1B / RHP / Dundalk, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session III
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP 
Body: 6’2”, 245 pounds. Strong, athletic body type. 
Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, upright, slightly open stance at the plate with hands pre-set. Smooth back load with a medium sized leg kick into a short stride. Creates good hand separation with an uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well, generating some lower half involvement. Keeps head down on the ball well with good extension through the zone and past contact. Quick hands and fast bat speed, finishing strong with two hands. Solid middle to pull side approach. 
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Developing power with some present pull side pop. 
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Throws with long arm action from a high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball, fielding it out in front. Shows solid range and a slight glove tap in exchange. Clean footwork on double play feeds, squaring shoulders nicely to the bag. 
Run: 4.81 home-to-first time.


Ethan Walker LHP / 1B / Broad Run, VA / 2022

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 5’11”, 170 pounds. Athletic, projectable frame. 
Hit: LHH. Hits from a taller, balanced, square stance. Smooth back load and medium sized leg kick into a short stride. Creates good hand separation with a slight uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball generating good lower half involvement. Gets good extension through the zone and past contact with a strong one handed finish. Shows good balance with a strong middle to pull side approach.   
Power: 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Middle to pull side pop present with more developing. 
Arm: LH. INF - 73 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a high three quarter arm slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well, showing quick feet, soft hands and good exchanges. Fields the ball out in front and funnels straight to the belt. Turns and squares shoulders nicely to the target on double play feeds. Shows ability to throw from various arm slots.
Run: 4.70 home-to-first time.


Brendan Yagesh LHP / 1B / Urbana, MD / 2022

Preseason All-State Session I
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 6’2”, 173 pounds. Long, lanky, athletic, projectable frame.
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance. Creates good hand separation with a small toe tap load and average stride. Attacks the ball with intent using an uphill swing path. Stays short to the ball with some lower half involvement. Maintains solid balance with quick hands and fast bat speed through swing. Creates good extension through the zone and past contact. Great gap-to-gap line drive approach, barreling up a ton of balls during BP rounds. 
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Strong pull side pop with more projected. 
Arm: LH. INF - 77 mph. Longer arm action from a mid to high three quarter slot. 
Defense: Surrounds the ball well, funneling it to the belt. Works through the ball, fielding it out in front with soft hands and quick feet. Opens up and squares shoulders nicely on double play feeds to second base. 
Run: 4.56 home-to-first time.

 

 

CLASS OF 2023

 

Griffin Shirk LHP / 1B / John Carroll, MD / 2023

Preseason All-State Session II
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6’1”, 160 pounds. Athletic, lanky, projectable frame. 
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, open stance from the left side of the plate. Smooth back load and average stride length. Short to the ball with quick hands and creates some bat speed through the zone. Slightly uphill swing path and stays behind the ball well with good extension through and past contact. Generates some lower half involvement and finishes the swing primarily with one hand. Really nice middle of the field line drive approach during BP. 
Power: 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap-to-gap pop with more developing. 
Arm: LH. INF - 72 mph. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarter slot. 
Defense: Works through the ball at first base fielding it out in front with active feet and showed quick, clean exchanges. 
Run: 4.34 home-to-first time.
