Updated Class of 2022 Player Rankings (April)

2021 brought back high school baseball in the state of Michigan where four schools were crowned champions. The state of Michigan has become a hotbed of talent throughout the country placing numerous players at various levels into colleges as well as multiple draft picks. As the weather warms up and the 2022 baseball season gets underway, we had the opportunity to see hundreds of prospects throughout the fall and winter and present our updated class rankings.

Many names came off the board to some of the top programs around the nation, many new names came to the forefront of the recruiting scene, and many prospects improved their game.

That being said, we have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past year. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.

Below we will take a look at, "What's New at the Top", “The Risers”, "The Gamers", The Sleepers”, "Don't sleep on these arms", and some of the top uncommitted prospects by position.

What’s New At The Top

Jack Crighton 3B / 2B / Orchard Lake St. Marys, MI / 2022

Report: With the top 6 staying the same in the 2022 rankings, Jack Crighton is the first change at the number 7 slot. With a 6-foot-3 projectable frame and a 6.43 60 time, Crighton's athleticism allows him to play multiple positions without missing a beat. At the plate the Michigan recruit has elite barrel to ball skills and is a line drive machine that drives the ball into gaps. A two sport athlete, Crighton recently concluded a standout high school basketball career for one of the top teams in the state.

Jake Dresselhouse OF / C / Orchard Lake St Mary's Prep, MI / 2022

Report: Moving into the top ten at the number 8 spot is Jake Dresselhouse, a 6-foot, 175 pound outfielder. Dresselhouse moved to the outfield last spring where his athleticism and 6.65 60 are on full display. At the plate, has a gap to gap approach with power. Stepped into the leadoff spot for Orchard Lake last spring and put his power on display leading the state champions in home runs. Versatile player posted a sub 2.0 pop time and a 87 MPH infield velocity at his last event.

The Risers

Jack Zang LHP / 1B / Divine Child, MI / 2022

Report: LHP Jack Zang is a 6-foot-4, 210 pound prospect that makes a big jump in the rankings checking in at number 16. Zang was a standout at the winter Unsigned Senior event running his fastball up to 90 MPH with a spin rate over 2200. Three pitch mix on the mound with a changeup in the low 80’s and a breaking ball in the high 70’s.

Schuyler Byrn RHP / Pioneer, MI / 2022

Report: RHP Schuyler Byrn makes a jump in the rankings and has everything you look for in a pitcher. A 6-foot-5, 195 pound prospect with a projectable frame, Byrn stood out at this winter’s ProCase showing a three pitch mix with a fastball up to 89 MPH. Ball comes easy out of the hand.

The Gamers

Aaron Piasecki SS / 2B / Mona Shores, MI / 2022

Report: MIF Aaron Piasecki is a left handed prospect. At the plate has explosive bat speed and consistently finds barrels. Showed off his power going yard at his last showcase. Runs a 6.69 60 and throws 89 MPH across the infield. A 2020 member of Team Michigan at Future Games.

Connor Luck SS / 2B / Fenton, MI / 2022

Report: Connor Luck, is a 5-foot-11, 190 pound infielder that is capable of moving around on the infield but can stick up the middle. Sure hands and a consistent glove on the infield. At the plate is a line drive hitter with good bat speed creating loud contact. A 2020 member of Team Michigan at the Future Games.

Marcus Patton 1B / 3B / Lincoln, MI / 2022

Report: Marcus Patton is a 6-foot-1, 225 pound physically imposing middle of the line up power hitter. A primary first baseman, Patton does damage at the plate. Went yard multiple times at his last showcase posting a 100 mph exit velocity and could frequently be seen hitting monster home runs last summer. Patton’s power makes him one of the top uncommitted bats in the state.

The Sleepers

Alex Fenkell SS / 2B / Groves, MI / 2022

Report: SS Alex Fenkell is a 5-foot-11, 180 pound left hand hitting middle infield prospect. Shows a smooth, short compact swing path with pull side power. Was a standout at the plate at this winter’s ProCase posting a 98 mph exit velocity and while hitting multiple balls over 330 feet. Runs a 6.70 sixty time while throwing 89 mph.

Matthew Greene 2B / SS / University Liggett, MI / 2022

Report: Matthew Greene is a versatile defender that can flat out hit. Was an offensive standout serving as Liggett’s 3 hole hitter on last season’s state championship team and followed that up with a strong summer at the plate. A primary MIF, Greene can also play in the OF and serves as Liggett’s starting CF. Greene posted a 6.78 60, 87 IF velocity, 91 exit velocity at his last event.

Don’t Sleep On These Arms

Hadi Elhasan LHP / OF / Dearborn High School, MI / 2022

Report: LHP Hadi Elhasan is a 6-foot-4, 195 pound prospect who is on the younger side of the 2022 class. Good command of a three pitch mix on the mound showing good arm side run on his fastball. Was up to 84 at the Unsigned Senior event in winter and up to 87 last fall. Made a big jump during the 2021 season and is an arm to follow heading into the 2022 season.

Ethan Papacek RHP / 1B / Stoney Creek, MI / 2022

Report: RHP Ethan Papacek is a physically developed pitching prospect on the mound. Works at an uptempo pace with a long arm action. Has shown consistent improvement over the years and was up to 86 at Eastern Michigan Preseason All State. Can keep hitters off balance with a nice 3 pitch mix that includes a low 70’s curveball with a 2400 spin rate and a low 70’s slider with a 2200 spin rate.

Below we look to name the top 5 prospects in specific categories based on primary positions for the 2022 class. Beyond this group, there are numerous prospects that can help a collegiate program in some capacity.
