Brennen Herbert & Chris Villaman - PBR Players of The Week for March 19 - 25
March 27, 2018
Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week. Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.
The week of March 19 – 25 featured teams in the heat of conference battles, across the state. As the competition heats up, so did the performances of many of the top players in the state. With a solid month of the season gone, and spring break on the way, better teams are beginning to distance themselves, and individual performances are leading some of the state’s top ranked teams.
This week we have co-PBR Players of the Week with two key cogs each throwing big no-hitters. Brennan Herbert (1B/LHP, Jack Britt HS, 2018) fired a complete game, no-hitter on the road at Richmond Sr. Not to be out done, Chris Villaman (LHP/OF, 2019) was dominant in his no-no vs. Central Davidson.
Herbert, an Appalachian State, only surrendered 1 walk, while recording 7 strikeouts. Jack Britt won the game 3-0, where Herbert also added a hit and an RBI in the win. Herbert used 94 pitches, throwing 55 strikes in the outing.
Villaman, the No. 1 ranked player in the 2019 class, a NC State commit, fired his no-no, racking up 15 strikeouts and only issuing 2 walks against Central Davidson. Villaman threw 67 of his 93 pitches for strikes, flooding the strike zone at a 72% clip. On the week, Villaman also added a double and 2 runs, while reaching base in half of his plate appearances.
