Blast Breakdown: 2022 OF/LHP Evan Dieter (Kingston)

Welcome back to Blast Breakdown! In this series we will spotlight one player each week who stood out during this 2020 season and take a deeper dive into their numbers and take a look at some that really stand out. 
Before we get started, we'll go over and define some of the terminology being used in the piece:

Bat Speed- The total speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact, measured in mph. The sweet spot is measured 6 inches from the tip of the bat.

Rotational Acceleration- A measure of how quickly the hitter gets the bat from launch position into the swing plane. This is measured in G-Force (g).

On Plane Efficiency- Measures the percentage of your swing that stays on-plane with the incoming pitch  

Exit Velocity-  The measures the speed of the ball off the bat, measured in miles per hour (mph).

Blast Breakdown

We saw Dieter twice this past year at the State Games and the Futures event in September where he put up some big numbers while showing quick twitch actions in the swing. The bat speed was impressive peaking at 75 MPH and he was consistent with it averaging 72 MPH which shows his strong base for hitting for power at the next level. Even more impressive for me is how he scales that power when looking at his rotational acceleration. This tells us how quickly he can accelerate into his pro range bat speed from his launch position, which he does very quickly peaking at 26.8 G's and averaging just over 24 G's putting him well above the MLB average per Blast data of 16.8 G's. This will put him in ahead of the majority of his peers at being equipped to handle high velo/spin fastballs and off speed pitches by allowing him to make later decisions. This make for a great ground floor for the uncommitted '22 and we are excited to see him continue to progress this upcoming year.
