Rankings Release: Class of 2022

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director

After a busy summer and fall across the Empire State and on the National scene, the staff at Prep Baseball Report - New York is happy to announce an update of the 2022 rankings along with a first time release of a "Players to Watch" list.

As with any underclass rankings, please understand that there will be changes. A slide in the rankings is rarely a reflection of the player but more so due to the addition of other players. A player ranked 25th today could be 125 by their junior year due to the expansion and addition of the rankings as more players from their respective class are seen over the years.

Today we will break down the Top 10, followed by the full list (110 players) and a first time look at the  Player to Watch list:

TOP 10 / CLASS OF 2022

Michael Kennedy LHP / 1B / Troy , NY / 2022

The Preseason All-State and NYS Games standout never made it to Georgia for the Future Games as he was a mid-July commit to LSU. Athletic 6-foot-1 195 pound frame with an arm action that works without restriction. Above average CB and same plane change up that complements an 84-86 MPH FB.

Eliakim Stowe RHP / 1B / Millbrook Prep, NY / 2022

Stowe first burst on the scene in early July at the St. Rose Campus Series event and then was a late addition to Team Select at the Future Games were he worked 85-88 over his two outings. The Maryland commit has a power pitcher's frame at 6-foot-3 200 pounds and shows a power change at 80-81 along with an upper 70's slider.

Steven Mazza RHP / 3B / Archbishop Molloy, NY / 2022

Solid 5-foot-11 190+ pound frame for the RHP from Long Island. Was up to 86 MPH this past February with a high 3/4 arm slot and feel for secondary offerings. Change up shows some arm side fade at 68-70; CB checks in at 70-72 MPH.

Zachary Peters RHP / SS / Trinity Pawling , NY / 2022

The CT resident attends Trinity Pawling Prep and was member of Team CT at the 2019 Future Games. The 6-foot-2 175 pound RHP features a moderate arm swing that works through a low 3/4 slot. Sat 85-86 in Georgia with a 69-71 MPH CB with short action. Easy effort that should support additional velocity gains.

Michael Mancini SS / RHP / Maine-Endwell, NY / 2022

A gamer in the full sense of the word. Above average instincts in the box and defensively. High contact approach; not afraid to use the whole field. The LHH runs a 6.84; demonstrates solid defense and has an internal clock defensively. Plays the game under control; also up to 79 MPH off the mound last FB with above average 12-6 CB.

Maxx Yehl LHP / Portville, NY / 2022

One of several highly projectable arms within the Top 10. The Western NY resident checks in at 6-foot-4 185 pounds with long limbs and frame that can add an easy 30+ pounds. Slight coil to his delivery; hides the ball well with a low 3/4 slot. Was up to 83 MPH this summer with sweeping CB/Slurve at 73-74 MPH. 2020 will be a huge development year for the Southpaw.

Wyatt Parliament RHP / SS / LaFargeville , NY / 2022

Similar to Mazza, both have DI commitments on the mound in the same house with their older brothers. The Rutgers commit and CNY resident originally burst on the scene with his JR. Future Games effort in 2018 and with a strong effort at the 2019 NYS Games. 6-foot-0 180 pounds; up to 83 MPH with a repeatable delivery. Solid left-side defender who is 84 MPH across the diamond and can use the whole field with a quiet approach in the box.

Evan Chaffee LHP / OF / Hamburg , NY / 2022

Along with Yehl, Western NY will have another LHP to follow. Chaffee features a lean build at 6-foot-1 155 pounds with a long and loose arm path that works through a 3/4 slot with ease. Works 81-83 MPH with way more in the tank.

Gavyn Boyle OF / 1B / Royalton-Hartland, NY / 2022

Boyle featured some of the best power on this past summer's Future Games roster. Easy loft to his pull side with plenty of athleticism attached to his 6-foot-2 180 pound build (6.89 60, 92 MPH exit velo). Once he sees more advanced pitching he could be one of the most feared bats in his class.

Mario Pesca RHP / Cardinal Spellman , NY / 2022

Pesca has the most advanced frame in the Top 10 at 6-foot-5 215 pounds. The Bronx resident features a moderate arm swing from a standard 3/4 slot. Has worked up to 84 MPH this past summer with an 11-to-5 CB in the 68-70 MPH range. Once his frame gets in sync with his arm, expect to see another velocity jump. High ceiling.
