Top Catcher Performances of the Fall

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the completion of the Fall College Prospect Program the outdoor portion of the Prep Baseball Report event schedule came to a close in September. With the Elite Prospect Showcase on November 7 set to kick off the indoor portion of the schedule we now look back on some of the top performances of the fall. Today we conclude our review by taking a look at the top catcher performances at a fall PBR event.

2016 C/1B Adam Celidonia (Montour, PA)

Adam CelidoniaAdam Celidonia is a 6-foot, 200-pound left-handed hitter that displayed the top bat exit velocity at the Western PA Fall Review (91 mph). The member of Team Pennsylvania at the 2014 PBR Future Games starts from a slightly open stance and initiates a fluid swing with a leg-lift stride. Celidonia showed the ability to drive both gaps and a solid feel for the barrel. He turned in the top pop time among catchers at 1.99 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Celidonia displayed a quick transition and good carry on consistently accurate throws. Shortly after the conclusion of the event Celidonia announced his commitment to play his college baseball at Lock Haven University.

2016 C Jimmy Sayles (Sterling, NJ)

Jimmy SaylesJimmy Sayles is a 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter that took one of the top rounds of batting practice at the Unsigned Senior Showcase earlier this month. The uncommitted senior starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Sayles stays inside the baseball very well and showed the ability to drive both gaps with a solid 82 mph bat exit velocity. His excellent balance and rhythm throughout his swing with limited head movement should allow for immediate success at the next level. Sayles displayed above average defensive skills with a very accurate arm. He showcased pop times of 2.05-2.14 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch.
