In late February, over 80 players from all corners of DC and Virginia descended on RockIt Sports in Richmond, Virginia for the Freshmen Free Central, our second event of 2021. Today, we conclude our breakdown of the event with the primary infielders:

Caeden Aleshire 2B / C / Wilson Memorial, VA / 2024 Aleshire is 5-5 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, loads down and back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with some extension through the ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, has some natural loft in his swing, exit velocity was 79. In the infield, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 63. Showed versatility working out at catcher. Ran a 4.21 home to first.

 

Giovanni Briggs 1B / LHP / Cosby, VA / 2024 Briggs is 5-10 with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He is a switch hitter. From the left side hits from an open balanced athletic stance, two step stride on line, loads back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed good approach working primarily gap to gap, natural loft in his swing with some power present. From the right side hits from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, two step stride on line, loads down and back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill line drive swing path with some extension through the ball, showed pull approach with some gap power present that way. Best exit velocity was 86. In the infield, gets body behind the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through the ball to a quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 73. Gavin Cunningham 3B / RHP / Albemarle , VA / 2024 Cunningham is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly closed balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, loads down and back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, goes straight to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed good approach working gap to gap, has gap power potential, exit velocity was 82. Chase Fultz RHP / 3B / Glen Allen, VA / 2024 Fultz is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has some strength present and projection left to it.
