Sunday June 21

Illinois Indians 5, Bloomington-Normal 3 at Joliet Catholic

BNBA Gold scored first in the third with two runs an RBI single by Sam Heaton (Central Catholic, 2017) provide the lift.

The Indians responded with four in the fourth and never looked back. A two RBI single by Tyler Rundquist (Buffalo Grove, 2017) highlighted the rally.

Alex Unekis (Antioch, 2017) went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Indians. Eric Bennes (Fremd, 2017) went five strong innings, striking out five to record the win. 

ESP 18, Top Tier Nationals 8 at Lockport

ESP exploded with a nine run second and eight run third to take down Top Tier Nationals 18-8.

Garrett Goetz (Oswego East) went 2-3with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Alex Steinbach (Plainfield North) went 2-2 with a double and two RBIs. Jack Marshall (Kaneland) went 1-2 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Jeremy Davis (Geneva) went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

Dylan Jones got the start for ESP and ran his fastball up to 87 mph in his outing.

Matthew Kann (New Trier) went 1-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored for Top Tier. Charlie Bourbon (Stevenson) went 2-2 with a double, two RBIs, and 2 stolen bases.

Hard Knox 13, PBA Demarini 8

Hard Knox hammered out 13 hits, led by power hitting third baseman Michael Lehner (Muskego HS, WI), who finished the day 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.

Marcus Protz (North Boone HS) earned the win on the mound for Hard Knox, pitching into the seventh inning. Brenden Alsup (Jefferson HS) went 2-for-4 with two singles and three runs scored. Leadoff hitter Jacob Nimtz (Rockford Harlem) finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Connor Walsh (Belvidere North HS) joined the multi-hit parade for the Rockford-based Hard Knox, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Catcher Kyle Antos (Indian Trail) and leadoff man Noah Cresco (Indian Trail) each finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored for PBA. Antos also added two RBI in the losing effort. Three-hole hitter Nathan Aide (Franklin) went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Eight different hitters in the PBA lineup recorded a hit.

Hard Knox wraps up the tourney with a 2-3 record. After not recording a win in pool play, the Rockford natives came out swinging in bracket play, scoring 21 total runs in two games against the Top Tier Americans (an 8-7 win) and PBA Demarini.

PBA Demarini also finishes the tourney at 2-3, recording victories over Batter’s Box Elite 6-2 and the Illinois Indians 3-2.

Top Tier Nationals 9, Rhino 1 at Lockport

Top Tier Nationals saved its best for the playoffs … and it showed. After knocking off top-seeded Pound Town in the first round of the playoffs Saturday, Top Tier cruised past Rhino in the quarterfinals Sunday at Lockport.

The Nationals broke open the contest with five runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 8-0. Top Tier pounded out five hits in the inning, including three doubles. David Trisko (Oak Park HS, 2017) led off the hit parade with a double; Mitch Mulvahill (Hinsdale Central HS) and Griffin Kelty (Oak Park HS) also doubled in the inning, while Matthew Kann added a run-scoring single. Mulvahill finished with two doubles and two RBI.

Kann, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitter, went 2-for-3 with a double, single, walk and two RBI, and Kelty also had two walks along with a double. Dave Navarro finished with a pair of bunt singles and lined out to centerfield.

Right-hander Alex Verta pitched three scoreless innings before walking three in the fourth inning, which led to Rhino’s only run.

Barek McCann paced Rhino with a double and two walks, and Christian Beal added a double.

Rhino Baseball 13, Lakeside Legends 6 at Lockport

In a game resumed from last night, Rhino scored three times in the sixth, and four times in the seventh, for the 13-6 victory.

Christian Beal (Marian Catholic) and Trevor Hadley (Tinley Park) delivered RBI singles for Rhino in the top of the sixth. Barek McCann (Brooks College Prep) had an RBI doubled in the seventh.

Mike Edwards (Oak Forest) pitched the final two innings, striking out two to earn the victory for Rhino.

ESP 7, Central Illinois Outlaws 5

ESP came out the gates swinging a hot bat, scoring four runs in the first inning, and held off a late Outlaw comeback to advance.

ESP wasted little time in Sunday’s morning game, as it pounded out four consecutive hits – all with two outs – to mount a quick 4-0 advantage in the first inning. After a two-out walk, starting pitcher Jake Pomykalski (Lincoln-Way East HS, 2017) started it with an innocent single to left field. Catcher Kyle McBrady (Providence HS, 2017) followed with a two-run double to centerfield, and Alex Steinbach (Plainfield North HS) then singled. Connor Yukna (Waubonsie Valley HS, 2017) capped the first-inning outburst with a two-run single.

Pomykalski, an athletically built 6-foot-5, 210-pound right-hander, blanked the Outlaws for the first four innings as ESP was seemingly in cruise control with a 5-0 lead. The Outlaws made a late push, scoring five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the game interesting. Pomykalski threw a high-volume of strikes with his 78-82 mph fastball that topped at 83 to earn the victory.

McBrady shined in the victory, delivering a pair of doubles in his first two at-bats – each equally barreled. He also flew out deep to centerfield in his third at-bat. Jack Marshall (Kaneland HS, 2017) and Garrett Goetz each doubled in ESP’s two-run fifth inning to cement the victory.

Max Tracy (Washington HS, 2017) had a RBI double and Braden Willoughby singled in a run in the Outlaws’ three-run sixth inning. Mason Diederich (Washington HS, 2017) added a pair of hits and reached base three times for the Outlaws.

Saturday June 20

PBA Demarini 6, Batter’s Box Elite 2 at Providence

PBA Demarini rebounded from an early first-inning deficit to defeat Batter’s Box Elite in the first round of the playoffs. Demarini scored four runs in the third inning to pull away from the St. Louis-metro area opponent. PBA produced four hits in its big third-inning outburst, highlighted by outfielder Kyle Scoville’s two-run double to right-center. Scoville, a sturdily built 5-foot-10 outfielder from Bradford HS (WI), finished 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored.

Shortstop Mitchell Buban (Tremper HS, WI) delivered a pair of RBI singles in the victory, including a line drive to left field in PBA’s big third inning. Buban also came into relief in the first inning to quiet Batter’s Box Elite’s bats for four innings. Third baseman Hunter Weddel (Tremper HS, WI) added two hits, two runs scored and a stolen base, while catcher Kyle Antos (Indian Trial HS, WI) drove in two runs with a single in the first and on a fielder’s choice.

Batter’s Box Elite came out hot in the first inning, scoring two runs, highlighted by Braeden Chandler’s RBI triple to right center.

ESP 9, PBA Demarini 2 at Joliet Catholic

ESP scored four runs in the first ignited on a two RBI single off the bat of Jake Pomykalski (Lincoln Way East, 2017) one of his three hits of the game. PBA would answer back in the first with an RBI single by Kyle Antos (Indian Trail, 2017).

ESP starter Jack Marshall (Kaneland, 2017) would go 4 1/3 allowing 2 runs, striking out 6.

Pound Town 8, Central Illinois Outlaws 8 at Providence

The Pound Town Spiders scored four runs, all with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the Outlaws. Zach Nogalski tripled home three runs, then scored when an errant relay trickled past third base.

Second baseman Joe Roscetti (Williamsville) led the Outlaws offensively going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Jake Armstrong (University High) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. OF/1B Blake Begner (Peoria Heights) went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

For the Spiders, Nogalski (Marquette) went 2-for-3 with the double, two walks and two runs scored. 2B Collin Sathe (Rufus King) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Jamie DeWitt (Waukesha South) added two hits.

Lakeside Legends 4, Illinois Indians 1 at Joliet Catholic

Lakeside got a huge effort from starting pitcher RHP Ben Gutke (Antioch, 2017) who tossed a complete game one hitter, notching eight strikeouts along the way. The lone Indian run came in the sixth on a Felix Rosario (Lane Tech, 2017) single which got misplayed in the outfield for a two base error and a run.

The Legends got a collective effort from their offense, Alex Gamache (Lake Forest Academy, 2017) and Tyler Esplin (IMG, 2017) added an RBI doubles.

Chicago Elite 10, Hard Knocks 7 at Providence Catholic

In a time shortened 6 inning game Chicago Elite pounded out a 10-7 win against Rockford Hard Knocks behind the bats of Jon Butler, Tom Laberry, and Billy Mote.

Chicago Elite jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. A leadoff walk and then back to back RBI doubles by Butler and Mote got the Chicago Elite bats started. Laberry continued the hitting with another RBI double to right center.

For the day Butler went 2-for-4 on the day with two doubles and a run but wouldn't be outdone by Laberry who lead the team going 3-for-4 with two doubles, 2 RBI, and 3 run scored.

Hard Knox chipped away in the first three innings with 2 in the first, 2 in the second, and three in the third. Michael Lehner and Bryan Truitt lead the way for the Hard Knox. Lehner went 1-for-2 on the day scoring 2 runs. Bryan Truitt went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, scoring 1 run.

Ian McCormick recorded the win for Chicago Elite going 4 innings giving up 7 runs on four hits, 5 walks, and 1 HBP.

Rhino North 9, RBI Cubs 6 at Providence

Rhino spotted RBI Cubs three runs in the first inning, but rallied for seven runs in the third and fourth innings to pull out the victory. Rhino broke open a 5-5 tie in the fourth inning with four runs.

In the fourth, Rhino pounded out four hits, headlined by Trevor Hadley’s two-run single. After Miles Simington followed with a sharp single to right field, left-handed hitting Mike Edwards ripped a two-run double to right field to extend the advantage to 9-5.

RBI battled back, scoring one run thanks to three consecutive walks. It loaded up the bases, but Kyle Terry got a strikeout to end the rally and the game.

Christian Beal finished 2-for-2 with a double, walk and two runs scored for Rhino. Hadley also had two hits and Edwards reached base three times.

Kyell Alexander, walked and scored two runs for RBI.

Bloomington-Normal Gold 7, Chicago Elite 2 at Joliet Catholic

BNG bats were hot early and jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first after stringing together six hits in the inning. The lea proved enough for BNG as Ryan Poland (U High, 2017) and Daylan Hand (Bloomington, 2017) took are of the pitching duties.

Hand was also hot from the dish ripping and RBI triple to center in the first and later adding an insurance run with an RBI single. Hand finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Jake McCaw (Normal Community, 2017) and Ryan Rose (Bloomington, 2017) each added two hits and McCaw drove in one on a deep double to right.

Chicago Elite’s Jimmy Quinn (Lincoln-Way North, 2017) went 2-for-3 with a double, both knocks were hit on the screws to the left side.

BNG advances in bracket play to Sunday at 9am at Providence Catholic.

Hard Knox 8, Top Tier Americans 7 at Providence

Hard Knox, which went winless in pool play, knocked off top-seeded Top Tier in the first round of the playoffs to advance to Sunday.

Top Tier's defense imploded in the fourth inning, committing four errors, and Hard Knox capitalized by scoring five runs to reclaim a 6-4 lead. Hard Knox added two more much-needed insurance runs in the sixth on Cristian Burciaga's two-run single. Top Tier made it interesting in the final inning when Brian Lyle delivered a bases-clearing triple to right center to make it 8-7. But Hard Knox reliever Jacob Mimtz came in to get a groundout to end the game.

Nimtz, the leadoff hitter from Harlem, reached base all four plate appearances, scored two runs and ripped a triple to right center field. Brenden Alsup from Jefferson HS also reached base four times, which included a double and two walks. Burciaiaga finished with two hits.

Left-handed hitting Noah Konie was a lone bright spot for Top Tier. Konie barreled a pair of doubles, including one that drove in two runs to highlight Top Tier's four-run third inning.

Hard Knox moves on to Sunday.

Top Tier Nationals 8, Pound Town 4 at Providence

The Top Tier Nationals rode the right arm of Jack Carberry (Shepard HS, 2017), who struck out nine in six innings of work, holding down a potent Pound Town offense. Carberry allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking only one. He impressed with an 82-85 mph fastball early on, paired with a hard 71-76 mph slider that he added and subtracted from.

Pound Town starting RHP Nolan Rebernick (Union Grove) also impressed early on, sitting in the 84-86 mph, with a 72-74 mph breaking ball. Rebernick allowed five runs (two earned) in five innings of work, on ten hits, with five strikeouts.

Ian Wilson (Elgin Academy) led Top Tier offensively, going 3-for-4 with a two-run double. Matthew Kann (New Trier HS) went 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, and two runs scored. 2B Mitch Mulvihill also went 2-for-3 with a HBP and two runs scored.

Pound Town’s MJ Houdek (Brookfield Central) led the way offensively going 2-for-4 with two singles. LHP Ryan Bader (Mukwonago) impressed striking out two in his first inning of relief, showcasing an 81-83 mph fastball from a lanky and projectable 6-foot-1 frame.

Top Tier Nationals advance to Sunday.

Illinois Indians 6, Lockport 1 at Joliet Catholic

RHP Brett Wicklund (Lane Tech, 2017) took charge on the mound for the Indians. After giving up a triple on the first pitch of the game to LHH C Ryne Travis (Lockport, 2017), Wicklund gave up his only run of the game in the first and settled in to complete the weather shortened 6-1 victory.

Illinois Indians advance to Sunday.

Top Tier Americans 13, Top Tier Nationals 4 at Lockport

Top Tier Americans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first en route to a 13-4 victory over Top Tier Nationals.

Ashton Creal (Metea Valley) reached bases in each of his first three at bats, thanks to two walks and a single. Creal came around to score each time. Michael Maher (South Lyon, MI) went 2-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Brett Bagus (Brother Rice) chipped in going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Griffin Kelty (Oak Park-River Forest) led the Nationals at the plate going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Bloomington Normal Gold 12, GRB Rays 3 at Lockport

Bloomington Normal scored three times in each in the fourth and fifth en route to a 12-3 victory over GRB.

Bloomington Normal was led at the plate by Matt Barnes (Central Catholic) going 2-4 with and RBI and two runs cored. Randy Lawrence (Bloomington) went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Keegan Bridges (Central Catholic) delivered a two run homer to left field in the bottom of the sixth. Dyalan Hand (Bloomington) went 1-2 with a triple an RBI and two runs scored.

Nick Elsen (Indian Trail) went 2-4 with a run scored for GRB.

Lockport 12, Batters Box Elite 2 at Lockport

Lockport used a three run third, five run fifth, and four run sixth en route to a 12-2 six inning victory over Batters Box Elite.

Nick Strysik (Lockport) had a big day at the plate going 2-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Billy Curtis (Lockport) went 2-3 with a double. DJ Studniarz (Lockport) went 2-3 with two RBIs.

For Batters Box Elite Jake Maxey (O’Fallon) went 2-3 with an RBI. Chad Sauls (Beleville West) went 2-2 with a walk.

Central Illinois Outlaws 7, GRB Rays 6 at Lockport

In the first round of bracket play the Central Illinois Outlaws came from behind after trailing 6-0 after two innings to defeat GRB 7-6.

With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth Trevor Davis (Morton) doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. After tagging up on a fly ball to right field, Jake Armstrong (U-High) blooped a single to center giving the Outlaws the 7-6 lead.

Adam Christianson (Morton) inherited a 6-0 deficit when he came in relief in the third. Christianson worked the final five frames allowing just two hits to earn the win.

Blake Begner (Peoria Heights) and Braden Willoughby (Washington) each went 1-2 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Joe Ludwig led the Rays offense going 2-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

ESP 9, RBI Cubs 4 at Lockport

In weather shortened game ESP came from behind to defeat RBI Cubs 9-4 in five innings.

ESP used five hits and ten walks to score nine times in four innings. Kyle McBrady (Providence) went 1-1 with two walks and an RBI. Connor Yukna (Waubonsie Valley) went 0-1 with two walks and two RBIs. Alex Steinbach (Plainfield North) went 1-1 with two walks and two RBIs.

PJ Maloney (Mount Carmel) led RBI Cubs going 1-3 with two RBIs. Mikyel Guyton (Gwendolyn Brooks) went 2-3 with a run scored.

Friday June 19

Illinois Indians 6, ESP 1 at Joliet Catholic

Indians got out to an early lead with runs in each of the first and second innings, finishing with a three spot in the seventh on a bases clearing double off the bat of SS Felix Rosario (Lane Tech, 2017). Rosario finished with three RBI on two hits.

OF Nathaniel Posadas (Taft, 2016) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored for the Indians.

ESP was led by left-handed hitting outfielder Dylan Jones (Oswego East, 2017) who had a two hit day including a double and the lone ESP RBI.

LHP Alec Van Pelt (Notre Dame, 2017) struck out four ESP hitters in two innings of relief.

Chicago Elite 4, Central Illinois Outlaws 4 at Providence Catholic

The Outlaws led 4-1 until a three run bottom of the sixth for Elite, highlighted by a lead off home run to deep right by shortstop Billy Mote (University High). Mote impressed going 3-for-4 with the homer and two hard hit singles.

Tom LaBerry (Lincoln-Way West) and and Ian McCormick (Lincoln-Way East) each added two hits for Elite.

Joe Roscetti (Willamsville), went 1-for-3 with a double for the Outlaws. Braden Willougby went 2-for-2 with a walk and two singles. LHP Blake Begner threw four scoreless innings to start the game.

Bloomington Normal Gold 4, Top Tier Nationals 3 at Lockport

With a 4-1 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh, Top Tier got four straight hits to make it 4-3. Bloomington Normal closer Peyton Dillingham (Normal West) inherited runners on first and second with only one out. He promptly picked off the runner at first and induced a lineout to left field to secure the victory.

J.D. Villafuerte (Normal Community) went 2-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases to pace the Bloomington Normal offense. Peyton Dillingham and Cooper Zogg (Normal Community) each went 1-4 with an RBI.  

Charlie Rodriguez (St. Rita) went 2-3 with two stolen bases for Top Tier. Dave Navarro (De La Salle) and Robert Chayka (St. Laurence) each had a single and an RBI.

Top Tier Americans 11, GRB Rays 1 at Lockport

Top Tier sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the second, scoring six times en route to the 11-1 six inning victory. Sam Fradin (Deerfield) and Hunter Keim (Rock Island) did the rest on the mound combining to allow just one run three hits while striking out ten.

Brett Bagus (Brother Rice) went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Noah Konie (Huntley) had a big day at the plate going 2-3 with a walk, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Hunter Keim went 2-2 at the plate with an RBI. Keim also pitchedthree innings in relief allowing just two hits and striking out six. Zach Frieling (Chicago Christian) added two RBIs. 

For GRB Joe Ludwig (Middleton) went 1-2 with a walk, stolen base, and a run scored. Paul Petit (Eau Claire Regis) went 1-2 with an RBI.

Central Illinois Outlaws 6, Hard Knox 4 at Providence Catholic

Braydon Weber (East Peoria) and Max Tracy (Washington) combined for the win, with Weber throwing five innings of three run baseball. Tracy earned the save with two innings of work, giving up one run on a solo home run to Anthony Coticchio in the sixth.

Second baseman Joe Roscetti (Williamsville) led the Outlaws offensively, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored. Catcher Mason Diederich (Washington) went 2-for-3 with two singles and three RBI.

ESP Select Black 7, Lakeshore Legends 3 at Joliet Catholic

ESP jumped out to an early lead on a RBI double by Garrett Goetz (Oswego East, 2017). ESP would continue to take a 6-1 lead through three innings. Kyle McBrady (Providence, 2017) also had two hits for ESP.

Dylan Jones finished the game on the mound for ESP siting 86-87 mph touching 89 mph, with a 70-71mph curveball.

Batters Box Elite 9, Rhino Baseball 0, at Lockport

Batters Box jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and that was all Evan Lawrence (Belleville East) would need. Lawrence worked all seven innings allowing just three hits in the shutout.

Batters Box was lead at the plate by Jacob Safarin who went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jake Maxey (O’Fallon) went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. 

Barek McCann (Brooks College Prep) doubled for Rhino.

Pound Town 8, Chicago Elite 7 at Providence Catholic

Tied 5-5 entering the sixth, Pound Town pounded out six consecutive singles to start the inning scoring three runs in the process, eventually winning 8-7 over Chicago Elite. 2B Collin Sathe (Rufus King) went 1-for-1 with a solo homer, three walks, a stolen base, and two runs scored. 3B Patrick Sisk (Marquette) and SS/RHP Christian McKelvey (two RBI, two runs) each had two hits. 

Jonny Butler went 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored, and an outstanding over the shoulder catch in deep center field for Chicago Elite. Ian McCormick (L-Way East), Jim Quinn (L-Way North), and Ken Brokop (Bradley Bourbonnais) each added two hits.

McKelvey (Germantown) earned the win with two shutout inning of relief. Nolan Rebernick (Union Grove) earned the save.

PBA Demarini 3, Illinois Indians 2 at Joliet Catholic

A tight game between PBA Demarini and Illinois Indians ended in walk-off fashion as Mitchell Buban (Kenosha Tremper, 2017) drove in the winning run with a bases loaded single to right.

PBA SS, Buban, finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.  Inidans left handed hitting first baseman Brett Wicklund went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Top Tier Americans 3, Bloomington Normal Baseball Association 2 at Providence Catholic

Top Tier road the right arm of Joe Vascik (St. Laurence), who threw a complete game two-hitter with six strikeouts and only two walks against BNBA.

Sam Fradin (Deerfield) led the Americans offensively going 2-for-3 with two singles, two RBI and a run scored.

BNBA's Cooper Zogg impressed in relief, throwing 3.1 innings of two-hit, one run baseball. Sam Heaton (Bloomington Central Catholic) went 1-for-3 with a double.

GRB Rays 7, Top Tier Nationals 3 at Joliet Catholic

GRB jumped out early with a two-run second on a RBI single by Eliot Turnquist (Columbus, 2017). Turnquist would finish with two hits and two RBI. Nick Elsen (Indian Trail, 2017) would add two hits with a ringing double and one RBI for GRB.

GRB starting pitcher Austin Braund (Holmen, 2017) would go the distance surrendering three runs, on five hits, striking out four while inducing 11 ground ball outs.

Lakeside Legends 5, PBA Demarini 4 at Joliet Catholic

PBA score twice in the early innings with the help of a defensive miscue. The Legends scored a run in the third on a Stephen Mogged RBI single.

PBA answered and opened their lead in the third with two runs thanks to an RBI single by Brennan Feguson.

Lakeside put together a late comeback in the top of the seventh. With two outs the Legends tallied four runs on a series of RBI singles from Brendan Murphy, Mogged, and Brad Czerniejewski to give Lakeside a 5-4 lead.

Relief pitcher Alex Williams would finish it off, completing his four shutout innings out of the pen.

Poundtown 4, Hard Knox 3 at Providence Catholic 

Poundtown's Griffin Doersching (Greendale HS) ripped his second homer of the day, this one of the walk-off variety in the bottom of the eighth inning, to give the Spiders a dramatic come-from-behind 4-3 win over Hard Knox. Doersching went 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk in his banner day.

Poundtown trailed 3-2 entering the final frame, tying the ball game on a Collin Sathe (Rufus King) solo homer to center field. Sathe also had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a homer, a triple, and two singles. After the triple third, he stole home for the Spiders' first run of the game.

RHP Taylor Just (Brookfield Academy) impressed on the mound for Poundtown, throwing five innings of one run baseball, allowing four hits, with six strikeouts. 3B/RHP Patrick Sisk (Marquette HS) sat 82-85 mph with a hard 72-74 mph curveball in relief.

Hard Knox starting RHP Brenden Alsup pitched effecitively into the eighth, allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Alsup also added an RBI-single in the sixth to tie the ball game, then gave Hard Knox the lead for a short while in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to center.

Rhino Baseball 5, Lockport 0, at Lockport

Mike Edwards (Oak Forest) dominated from the opening pitch throwing a complete game two hit shutout for Rhino. Edwards fastball sat 83-85 topping out at 87 mph, to go along with a changeup at 77 mph, and a slurve at 65-66 mph.

Justin Mazur (Manteno) went 1-2 with a double, walk, RBI, and a run scored. Barek McCann (Brooks College Prep) went 2-3 with an RBI. Sean Robinson (Lincoln-Way North) went 2-2 with a walk, and RBI, and a run scored.

Gavin Lovesky (Lockport) went 1-3 with a stolen base for the Porters.

Lockport 12, RBI Cubs 3, at Lockport

Lockport jumped on RBI Cubs scoring six times in the first two innings en route to a 12-3 victory.

Gavin Lovesky lead the Porters at the plate going 2-3 with two doubles, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Tom Shields worked six innings for Lockport to earn the win.

Jarren Norman (Morgan Park) went 3-3 with a double and an RBI for RBI Cubs.

Batters Box 4, RBI Cubs 1, at Lockport

Trailing 1-0 heading to the top of the 7th Batters Box scored four times for the comeback victory.

Bob Tedesco ( ) threw a complete game for Batters Box allowing just three hits and one unearned run. John Hilpert (Freeburg) went 1-3 with an RBI.

Mykel Guyton (Brooks College Prep) led RBI Cubs at the plate going 1-3 with a double. Jimmie Ambrose (Morgan Park) took the loss on the mound despite working seven innings and allowing just three hits and three walks.

Hard Knox 13, PBA Demarini 8

Hard Knox hammered out 13 hits, led by power hitting third baseman Michael Lehner (Muskego HS, WI), who finished the day 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.

Marcus Protz (North Boone HS) earned the win on the mound for Hard Knox, pitching into the seventh inning. Brenden Alsup (Jefferson HS) went 2-for-4 with two singles and three runs scored. Leadoff hitter Jacob Nimtz (Rockford Harlem) finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Connor Walsh (Belvidere North HS) joined the multi-hit parade for the Rockford-based Hard Knox, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Catcher Kyle Antos (Indian Trail) and leadoff man Noah Cresco (Indian Trail) each finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored for PBA. Antos also added two RBI in the losing effort. Three-hole hitter Nathan Aide (Franklin) went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Eight different hitters in the PBA lineup recorded a hit.

Hard Knox wraps up the tourney with a 2-3 record. After not recording a win in pool play, the Rockford natives came out swinging in bracket play, scoring 21 total runs in two games against the Top Tier Americans (an 8-7 win) and PBA Demarini.

PBA Demarini also finishes the tourney at 2-3, recording victories over Batter’s Box Elite 6-2 and the Illinois Indians 3-2.
