Top-10 Profiles of 2020: No. 6 Adam Switalski

As the year starts to unwind, our staff will start to highlight the top-10 most viewed profiles from 2020 – starting at 10 and counting down.
Today we’ll highlight Westosha Central’s Adam Switalski, the No. 3-ranked prospect in the state’s 2023 class that’s also ranked No. 258 overall in our recently updated national rankings. Our first real look at Switalski's toolset in action came at the PBR Junior Future Games back in 2019, where he starred for Team Wisconsin on both sides of the ball. He’s evolved particularly well on the mound since, refining his arsenal and molding himself into one of the top 2023 pitching prospects in the Midwest.
We last saw Switalski at our prestigious Underclass Games event in July and our staff ranked him as the top pitching prospect in attendance – and fourth overall. His fastball sat at 85-86 mph in his lone inning of work, touching 87 and worked best at the knees. He complemented that pitch with a curveball that flashed some depth but he’s still harnessing full control of it, although it’s improved some over the years.
Switalski verbally committed to Indiana at the end of 2019, and while he still has some time until he gets there, he should be a quality addition to the Hoosiers’ staff once he makes it to Bloomington. The athleticism and frame suggests there’s more left to come from the lanky right-hander, so the upside here could be rather prevalent. We’ll continue to monitor his progress throughout the course of his prep career.

Scouting Report
Positional Profile: OF/RHP One of the top prospects in Wisconsin's sophomore class.
Body: 6-0, 160-pounds. Lanky, high-waisted frame with athleticism. Plenty of room to tack on strength throughout.
Delivery: Hands rock over head prior to initiating a smooth tempo'd drop/drive type delivery. Athletic posture, fluid lower half movement patterns, explodes downhill, strong lead leg block at foot strike. Works direct to target, lands square with an athletic finish.
Arm Action: RH. Long and loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T87, 85-86 mph. Comes out clean, lively action into the zone. Flashed arm-side run, rises at times but plays best down at the knees.
CB: 72-73 mph. 11/5 shape with some depth, early break. Averages 2,212 RPM.
Hit: RHH. Quiet in the box, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride to even. Simple swing, loose hands, long and level bat path, gap-to-gap approach, sprays to all fields.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. OF - 88 mph. Short and loose arm action works from an over-the-top slot. Well advanced arm strength for age, throws played true with natural carry to home.
Defense: Natural outfield actions, completely looks the part. Bouncy defender pre-pitch, athletic feet that work around the baseball in rhythm, soft hands, quick hand transfer, clean to release.
Run: 7.16 runner in the 60.
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Identified early as one of the top prospects in the state's 2023 class; competitive, aggressive demeanor.
Body: 6-foot-0, 155-pounds. Athletic frame with a live arm; lean, wiry strength.
Delivery: Tall, staggered setup working from the left edge of the rubber; smooth side rock to high knee and athletic balance point. Drops and drives with level shoulders, working on line, landing square to home, finishing athletically with big extension to the target.
Arm Action: RH. Long, loose, and quick arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Live arm.
FB: T85, 83-85 mph. Straight four-seam type; features some jump/carry through the zone. Extension at release helps velocity play up.
CB: 72-74 mph. 12/6 shape thrown at arm speed; flashed sharp, biting action with a feel for tight spin.
CH: 75-79 mph. Straight change thrown with conviction and at arm speed; slight arm-side action.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance, short stride, hands stay in rhythm. Slightly uphill path, average bat speed, loose hands through contact.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 88 mph. Live arm, short loose arm action, high 3/4 slot, carry across with minimal accuracy.
Defense: Feet setup to play through the baseball glove play left of center, out front, soft hands work through the baseball.
Run: 7.44 runner in the 60.

An athletic and lanky 5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect with projectability. He started on the mound for the Hitters on Sunday against Naperville Renegades American. Pitched 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on three hits, three walks, and he also struck out three batters. He has a simple delivery, rocks into motion, stays tall. Arm action is long and loose, high ¾ slot, arm speed is quick, especially for his age. Fastball, 79-81 mph, with consistent arm-side run, flashed hard action; sat in the 76-79 mph range after the first frame. Curveball has swing-and-miss potential, with power 11/5 shape and depth when he gets on top of it.
