Uncommitted. Projectable 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with lean strength and room to add more. Hit leadoff and started in center field for the Knights. Finished 3-for-5 with a double and two stolen bases, scoring Triad’s only run in the contest, too. Has easy bat speed, stays flat through the zone and backspins the baseball. Ball jumps off the barrel with a knack to find it. Sprayed a single to left field on a 90 mph fastball in the first, went the other way on an 88 mph heater for a double in his second at-bat. An asset defensively too - has a quick first step to the baseball, comfortably covers ground and flashed above-average arm strength in pregame. Slashing .526/.589/.885 on the year with 16 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases. One of the top uncommitted junior bats in southern Illinois.
3/16/23
6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with lean strength and room to fill out. Hit leadoff and started in center field for Triad in game one against Oswego, toed the rubber in game two against Champaign Central. Stands upright at the plate with his bat rested over his back shoulder, weight and hands drift back at load, lead leg lifts, balanced throughout. Barrel enters the hitting zone on a flat path and stays on plane through contact, rotational athlete that generates strength in that regard. Hard off the barrel in this look - turned on one to his pull-side for a single in his first at-bat, screamed a line drive home run over the left field fence in his second. Moved around center field comfortably, an above-average runner for his age. Athletic mover on the mound, works downhill in a drop/drive pattern with heavy stack onto his backside. Closed shoulders, short strider downhill that finishes onto a closed front foot. Long arm action, quick out front and finishes from a ¾ slot. Fastball played with late arm-side action at 84-86 mph. Confidently spun a tight, short wrinkle slider at 75-78 mph in all counts for both strikes and whiffs. A two-way uncommitted junior to follow for the Knights throughout the spring.
2/23/23
RHP/OF Brady Coon (Triad, IL, 2024) was one of the day’s biggest two-way standouts. A projectable 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete with lean strength and rotational athleticism, Coon showed easy hand speed at the plate, barreling balls on repeat from a long, level right-handed swing. He averaged 88.9 mph per batted ball, reaching a 96.5 mph peak, and both his hard-hit rate (70%) and sweet spot percentage (70%) were amongst the event’s leaders. He ranged well in the outfield defensively, flowing in rhythm around the baseball while topping at 87 mph on his firmest throw home. Coon also ran a 3.85 30-yard dash with a 1.68 10-yard split - both of which finished near the top of this event and are advanced metrics for someone his age. After all that, Coon hopped on the mound, pumping his fastball at 83-86 mph with both ride (18.7 IVB) and run (14.5 HM). His best secondary in this look was a polished changeup, one he threw with fastball arm speed at 79-81 mph, creating 14+ inches of horizontal action on average. He spun a tight, short wrinkle 77-78 mph curveball too, landing it for strikes occasionally. Coon’s certain to play a big role this spring for a Triad team that’s one of the top 3A programs in our area.

6-foot-1, 160-pound, athletically-built, two-way prospect. In an extra-innings battle against Naperville Central, came out of the bullpen for Triad and gave up one earned run in three pressure-packed innings while striking out three. Made a number of big pitches in big spots to keep the Knights in the game. Arm works short and clean from a high ¾ slot. Compact, repeatable delivery and above-average mound presence for his age. Fastball sat around 83 mph early in his outing. Early on he showed advanced feel for his slider which worked out of the same window as his fastball. Slider had tight, short action with late bite off a 10/4 plane at 73-75 mph with 2230 rpm. Has a chance to be a swing-and-miss offering down the road. Also, showed well at the plate, delivering a game-tying two-run double in extra innings. Finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs, a walk and two runs scored.
