5/21/13 - Has turned it on the last half of the season and his draft stock has continued to climb, from what we’re hearing. The 6-foot, 190-pound Louisville recruit has arguably the most polished left-handed swing in Illinois’ 2013 class. Ray looked extremely impressive against Morgan Park. His plate approach is advanced well beyond his age. He barreled the ball all game, but his crowning moment was when he crushed a taper-shot blast well over the centerfield batter’s eye. I’m not good at gestimating how far the ball travels, but I can tell you the ball sailed well over the 407-feet marker. He also is an advanced outfielder with solid arm strength.

5/17/13 - Louisville commit. No. 5 in Illinois’ class of 2013, No. 33 overall. Advanced build, shows strength, 6-foot, 190 pound left-handed outfielder. Advanced bat speed, short quick path with extension, advance hitter, shows opposite field pop. Above average runner. Defensively shows excellent range, smooth defensive actions. Ray shows a high level skill set that projects well, his bat speed and path show that he has the ability to hit at any level. 2-for-3, double and triple, run scored and RBI.

Despite being under the spotlight for the past two years, the Corey Ray has continued to shine. As one of the most celebrated outfield prospects in the Class of 2013, he left-handed hitting Ray has produced on the biggest of stages. Verbally committed to the University of Louisville, Ray’s all-around play earned him a spot on the Under Armour All-America Game at Wrigley Field in August.  A high-energy player, Ray’s speed, baseball instincts and strong arm has made him one of the top defensive outfielders in the country. Offensively, Ray has a quick and explosive left-handed swing which he used to bat .429 as a junior. He finished with  5 home runs, 5 triples and 6 doubles. He drove in 35 runs, scored 35 runs and stole 5 bases. He finished with a .515 on-base percentage and an .814 slugging percentage. Ray’s all-around play helped the Wolverines to an extremely successful season which included a Chicago Public League championship.

Ray showed to be one of the top Class of 2013 prospects in the state, as he performed well in all aspects of the game. The 5-foot-10, 167-pound left-handed hitting showcased impressive arm strength at the event, firing accurate 87 mph strikes from the outfield. Ray moves athletically and takes good routes to the ball. At the plate, Ray continued to impress with a smooth, mechanically sound left-handed swing. Ray has quick, loose hands, takes a short path to the baseball and gets excellent extension through contact swing.

Two-way talent has pure left-handed swing. As a sophomore, he batted .415 with 45 runs and 14 stolen bases. Also a top-level defensive outfielder.
