Schwigen (Rockridge, 2027)had an impressive outing on the mound in the day’s first slot. He stands in a hard-to-miss frame at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with more still to come. He finished the game throwing a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts, one walk and five hits allowed. He displayed a clean delivery paired with a compact arm action and acceleration out front, sitting mostly 85-88 mph on his fastball with arm-side run at times, producing quality spin at 2300-2400 rpm. He also mixed in a sharp breaking curveball at 75-76, showing feel to land for strikes, and a change-up at 79-82 mph. A high-follow prospect in Illinois’ 2027 class.

RHP Cullen Schwigen (Rockridge, 2027) is a three-sport athlete and was the starting quarterback this past fall. A 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame with projection, Schwigen has a quick arm and his fastball sat 83-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph. He showed a curveball, too, which sat 67-69 mph with 11/5 shape. Schwigen is a name-to-follow throughout his prep career.

Previously shining at the PBR Junior Future Games, Schwigen carried that momentum into the Illinois State Games. Broad shouldered 6-foot-2, 165-pound lean frame. Short, over the top arm action that plays loose and whippy. Advanced arsenal for his age, playing against much older competition. Fastball played in the 82-84 range, topping 85 mph. Fastball showed carry through the zone (2323 RPM), with a max IVB of 17.5 inches. Also played with occasional run (17.7 HM). Deceptive breaking-ball that was thrown at the same arm speed and slot as the fastball. Flashed 12/6 shape with gradual break, will continue to develop more break with added strength. Athletic arm with long-levers that will continue to get better throughout his prep career.
