6.14.17 - Drafted in the 16th round out of Michigan by the Cincinnati Reds.
4/17/14 - Ranked No. 16 in Illinois and No. 68 overall. Michigan recruit. Sturdy 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame, athletic feet and arm. Works from high-3/4 slot, shorter arm action, repeats athletic delivery consistently. Impressive performance on several levels: 1.) Showed ability to throw consistent strikes with three pitches (fastball, curveball, changeup). 2.) Held consistent 88-90 velocity, with several 91s early on, for seven innings. 3.) Curveball showed makings of being an excellent pitch. 4.) Results: 3 hits, 0 earned runs, 12 Ks, 3 BB (two in seventh). Nutof came out of the gates hot. He struck out six in the first two innings. In the first, he sat 90-91; in the second, 89-90. Still worked at 88-90 in the fifth. Curveball showed more late bite and consistency than what we’ve seen in the past. Pitch ranged between 74-76 mph with 11/5 break. Also showed feel for 81-82 changeup, though didn’t need it much. Defense didn’t help him much, committing five errors behind him, but showed composure and mature presence on mound.
6/12/13 - Previously unknown to us, Nutof looks every bit of one of the top pitching prospects in an extremely deep pitching class. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-hander was the buzz of the Black and Silver after his fastball sat in the 89-91 mph range with late arm-side run. He has a quick, athletic arm, works slightly across his body and has some deception in his delivery. Nutof also showed tight 73 mph breaking ball in his stint. He came back later in the week with similar 89-90 velocity.
