Grip Strgth (LH)
Grip strength is a measure of a players bat control and ability to transfer power and speed during impact, measured in pounds of force generated; collected with elbow bent at 90 degrees.
Grip Strgth (RH)
Grip strength is a measure of a players bat control and ability to transfer power and speed during impact, measured in pounds of force generated; collected with elbow bent at 90 degrees.
RHP Ryan Schaffnit (Morton; Bradley commit) opened some eyes in his two inning stint. He takes the mound at a physically imposing 6-foot-6, 213-pounds and moves well for his size, showing little perceived effort with the ability to repeat his operation. His arm works short in the back before firing through with a higher ¾ release. The fastball came out easy with life through the zone, 87-89 mph (T90), setting up a sharp slider with late lateral break at 78-79 mph with feel to land to his glove side. His final offering was a changeup around 75-79 mph, displaying gradual running action to his arm-side.
Verbally committed to Bradley.
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-6, 213.4-pounds.
Delivery: Controlled tempo with high leg lift, easy operation, works in-line.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4 arm slot, easy out of the hand. Struck out three in two innings, only allowing one hit.
FB: T90, 88-90 mph. Late life with ride through zone, ASR. T2181, 2100 average rpm.
SL: 78-79 mph. Bullet action, shorter 10/4 shape with sharp action, collected swing/miss. T2041, 1979 average rpm.
CH: 76-79 mph. Sinking action, generates swing and miss. T1794, 1652 average rpm.
Uncommitted and currently ranked No. 79 in the state. The high-waisted, loose-bodied 6-foot-6, 215-pound right got the start for the Top Tier Central Americans Sunday afternoon and went the distance. Schaffnit navigated a three-pitch mix in this look and had a feel for the zone with all three. His fastball had late life to it at 84-87 mph (T88), while his best offspeed offering was an arm-side fading changeup at 74-76 mph that he commanded to both sides of the plate. Schaffnit also showed a slider at 77-78 mph that earned occasional whiffs. A must-know in the state’s incoming-senior class.
Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 118 in the state’s junior class. Started on the mound for the Potters and was dominant. Stands in a hard-to-miss frame at 6-foot-6, 215-pounds, and he’s clearly added strength to the frame since last spring. It’s an easy delivery with a clean arm with quickness out front, showing the ability to command the zone with both his fastball and change-up. His fastball sat 84-86 mph with clear arm-side run. His change-up was his most impressive off-speed offering, going to it often to both RH and LH hitters, sat 73-76 mph and totaled seven swing-and-misses with the pitch. Schaffnit’s curveball sat 68-71 mph with 11/5 shape; produced two swing-and-misses. Threw four innings, struck out seven and allowed one hit, 34/42 strikes. A high-follow name-to-know in the state’s junior class.
RHP Ryan Schaffnit (Morton) is another uncommitted standout from the event. The 6-foot-6, 212-pound righty ran his fastball in the 84-87 mph range with arm-side run (avg. 14.8” HM). Playing off the fastball was a slurve-type slider that showed sweeping action at times at 69-72 mph. Schaffnit rounded out his mix with a 77-78 mph changeup that played with heavy sink (avg. -0.7” IVB) and arm-side run.
