Showed a strong accurate arm with carry. Commands pitching staff well, on field leader. At the plate hits from a relaxed setup with good balance. Creates leverage in swing, strong thru contact. Showed good pitch recognition skills at the plate. 1-3 with a grand slam.
4/30/14 Currently ranked No. 31 in Illinois’ 2015 class, No. 126 overall. Solid 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Defensively, possesses strong arm – consistent 2.00-2.08 pop times between innings; longer arm action on transfer, throws have excellent carry. Offensively, got behind in counts in all four at-bats. Finished 1-for-3 (infield single) with strikeout and hit by pitch.

Defensively has a strong arm, gets excellent carry out of the crouch, over the top slot, 80 mph out of the crouch. Posted pop times at 2.00-2.06, footwork lacked direction at times. Soft hands, receives the ball well. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride, simple approach, two handed finish. Strong hands, generates excellent bat speed with hands, 91 mph exit velocity, power potential.

Behind the plate he throws with a short arm and well above average carry/accuracy at 81 mph. Has a quick, repeatable catch and release technique with pop times in the 1.97-2.1 range. Offensively he has an open stance with a short stride. Has a slightly uphill path with quality extension and above average bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee. Has a line drive swing with a gap-to-gap approach. He ran a 7.3 60. Mascarella is one of the top receivers in the Class of 2015. His arm separates him from a lot of other backstops as he shows advanced carry through his target. Mascarella is one of the more high touted catchers in the class and is a high follow for 2015’s.
