C Zach Pomatto (Joliet Catholic) is an uncommitted backstop to know from the event. A sturdy and strong 6-foot, 218-pounds, Pomatto stood out on both sides of the ball during gameplay. Defensively, he works hard behind the plate, trying to present pitches around the zone, while also being a willing blocker. Offensively, the left-handed hitter uses a simple, compact swing that was on the barrel for a double in game one of the State Games.

3/28/24
Uncommitted. Listed at a strong-bodied 6-foot-1, 215-pounds, strength in the lower-half. Started behind the plate and hit out of the two-hole for the Hillmen, finishing the day 1-for-3 with an opposite field single and two RBIs. The left-handed hitter has a simple and repeatable load, creating some separation in the hands into footstike, showing mature feel to use the whole field and take the ball where it's pitched with his opposite field single on a fastball that caught the outer-half of the plate. Behind the plate, Pomatto puts his body on the line regularly, blocking balls up to both sides regardless of if anyone is on base, high motor. Arm plays true with carry on throws to second, clean actions out of the chute. Scrappy backstop that has shown well multiple times in front of our staff now.
3/15/24
Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 215-pound, physical, strong and durable left-handed hitting catcher. Field general, grinder mentality. Caught every inning of a double header on Friday and handled a number of high-level arms with advanced stuff. Willing and able blocker. Also, hit in the two-hole in both games with his best production coming in the night-cap against No. 1 Edwardsville. Launched a two-run double deep into the right-center field gap in his third at-bat of the game. Also, lined a single to left-field in his final at-bat. Finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
2/25/24
