Kentucky commit. 6-foot-4, 210-pound advanced build, uber athletic and easy actions on the mound. Started and went five innings on 79 pitches allowing two hits and striking out nine. Delivery is clean and easy with tempo, works in-line, toe lands slightly open. Arm is live and quick, easy ¾ slot, repeats. Pitched with a presence and fire at times, attacked hitters. Fastball sat 92-94 mph hitting 94 four times in the first. Settled in at 88-91 mph with a 4-seam/2-seam mix, elevated the 4 and worked corners with the 2, firm through the zone. Slider flashed wipeout slurve shape at times sweeping across the entire plate, struggled to get it in the zone, buried it often. Changeup, maintained arm speed, left it up, 83-85 mph, should easily get a feel for the secondary after a few starts under his belt this spring.
9.22.17 - Verbally committed to Kentucky.
2017 Future Games (8.2.17) - 6-foot-4, 195-pound, highly-projectable, long and lean right-handed pitcher. Plenty of room for continued physical development. Solidified himself as one of the top available 2019 arms in the Midwest. Had one of the best innings at the Future Games in his final stint. Coming out of a low ¾ slot, Lee consistently hit 89-90 mph, touching 91 with his fastball, and placed it wherever he wanted to both sides of the plate with sink and run. The ball jumps on hitters as it reaches the plate, thanks to his loose, whippy arm and easy effort. Lee at one point showed off a “quick pitch” out of the wind up, that caught everyone off guard, including the hitter. Lee also showed the makings of an above-average three-pitch mix throughout the weekend. The slider showed better feel and sharpness in his second outing; flashed swing-and-miss at times, 10/4 shape and 74-78 mph. Changeup, good feel, late run and fade, 81 mph. High-level 2019 arm who should now be on the national radar.
5.12.17 - Currently ranked No. 4 in the Illinois’ 2019 class and No. 87 overall. 6-foot-4, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher with an advanced frame for his age; strong, well-proportioned, projectable frame. Continues to prove he is one of the top uncommitted sophomores in the region. Started on the mound for Effingham, went 5.2 innings, gave up two hits, one earned run, struck out eight and walked three. Calm demeanor on the mound, works fast and showed feel for a three-pitch mix. Arm is long, loose and live from a ¾ slot. Stays on-line with his delivery, works with rhythm, and finishes upright. Fastball flashes hard arm-side-run and sink, works both sides of the plate, sat 88-89 mph, touching 90 early. Settled in anywhere from 85-89 mph and ran it up to 90 once more in the fourth inning. Breaking ball, throws it often, good feel, occasionally slows arm speed, slider action, 10/4 shape, flashed swing and miss at times, 75-79 mph. Only went to changeup a few times throughout, good feel, 83 mph, arm-side-run action. Has potential to develop a legitimate three-pitch mix. Overall, high-level uncommitted 2019 arm in Illinois.
7.26.16 - 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a loose, live arm action. Low effort tall and fall, online delivery. Smooth rhythm with an open toed landing and upright finish. Fastball showed running action at 85-87 topping out at 88 mph. Curveball is firm at 71-75 mph with 11-5 shape and tight rotation. Sharp, late breaking action, will occasionally hang it, but flashes plus. Changeup sat 79 mph.
Summer 2020: Ranked as the No. 146 prep prospect in the country his senior year of 2019, Zack Lee (Kentucky) has touched 97 mph with his fastball this summer and has the stuff for the high rounds of the 2022 draft. However, his pitchability remains a work-in-progress. In 18 innings this summer, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound right-hander has allowed 24 hits and walked nine leading to a 5.00 ERA.
