Purdue Northwest commit, INF Nicolas Mangano (Marian Catholic, 2023), took one of the top rounds of infield defense we saw on the day. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound middle infield carries his strength well in his frame and bounced around the infield with playable, quality actions and a pace to his game. He has active feet and soft hands that play out front and flow naturally into a strong arm that plays true and carries across the diamond at 88 mph. The 7.02 runner looks to be a sure fit up the middle of an infield moving forward.
4/20/22
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 236 in Illinois’s 2023 class. Compact, athletically-built frame, 5-foot-10, 155-pounds, broad shoulders. Started at shortstop and hit out of the four-hole for Marian on Wednesday. The right-handed hitter impressed with multiple barrels throughout the day, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs. At the plate, he maintains a fluid rhythm during pre-pitch and moves into a repeatable stride; hands work uphill through the zone at times, mostly flat with a line-drive approach, loose hands through contact and gets out of the box quick - running to a 4.56 down the line. While on the basepaths, Mangano moves with intent and aggressiveness, looking to take the extra base at all times and stealing third base in gameplay.

MIF Nicholas Mangano (Marian Catholic, 2023) had a strong all-around showing at the Pullman Center. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound infielder moves athletically to both sides of his glove, helping him to cover ground easily. His hands work soft with a clean transfer, also using fluid footwork around the ball to pair with a strong arm (85 mph) that can play on the move. On the other side of the ball, the right-handed hitter took a quality round of BP, working with a fluid tempo into a quick/uphill path that has sneaky jump off the barrel with a 94.9 mph max exit velocity. Mangano also registered a max batted distance of 323 feet and he was on the sweet spot at a 70 percent clip, among the day’s best rates.
