Ryan Florence: C/RHP, (2022) Shadyside, OH.

 6-foot-1, 185-pound physical frame. Solid in the box, Florence recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. Begins in a balanced tall stance with a controlled load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was above average. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, his best recorded velocity during throw downs was clocked at 78 mph; had consistent hands, choppy footwork, and a developing exchange. Produced pop times of 2.04-2.29. Has athletic setup. Recorded a 60 time of 7.3 at the event.


Hit: Upright setup, leg kick load with quiet hands, balanced launch, aggressive stroke. Doesn't get cheated. Physical dude with above average bat speed. Ball really comes off well when squared.
Power: Gap pop.
Offensive Projection: Middle.
Max BP Exit Velocity: 94 mph
Max BP Distance: 337 ft
Field: Definitely has the tools to work with back there. Physical, athletic with serviceable receiving/blocking abilities.
Throw: Above average arm for class.
Defensive Projection: C


Hit:All the tools to do damage. Physical bat who can accelerate quickly with obvious hand speed. Ball really comes off well. 75mph bat speed and 22gs off rotational acceleration according to blast.
Power:Legit pop for class.
Offensive Projection:Run producer ceiling .
Max BP Exit Velocity:98 mph
Max BP Distance: 287 ft
Field:Very solid defender behind the dish. Physical backstop with an above average skill set across the board.
Throw:Accurate deliveries with jump out of the hand.
Defensive Projection: C.


2/17/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Fluid up-tempo delivery. Stays vertical throughout with slight usage of lower half. Fastball: Heavy throughout the zone at 79mph. Curveball: Plus offering with sharp consistent bite at 11/5 break falling in around 69mph. Changeup: Shows plus side potential with heavy arm side fade. Inconsistent with accuracy at times. 2/17/20 Position Player Hit: Starts out in an upright stance at the plate. Incorporates a high leg kick loading mechanism to utilize his lower half. Maintains a level bat path through the zone with natural loft. Power: Ball jumps off the bat. Present gap to gap abilities with the ability to hit for power as he continues to fill out. Offensive Projection: Middle of the lineup ceiling. Field: Above average catcher. Solid receiving skills and good catch/throw guy. Throw: 1.96-2.01 pop with 72 mph arm strength. Defensive Projection: C.


Body Type: 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic frame with room to add.

Swing Mechanics: Upright setup with a leg kick timing trigger.

Hit: Aggressive stroke with well above average natural tools for class. Physical with a fast bat. Ball jumped in BP. All fields approach with impressive jump to pull side. Has some things to clean up but the tools are obvious.

Power: Chance to hit for some power as he fills out. Present gap abilities. 89 mph exit velocity in BP.

Offensive Projection: Run Producer.

Run: 7.74 60-yard dash.

Field: Solid showing behind the dish. Above average receiving abilities for class and really stood out catch/throw wise in workouts. Popped from 1.92-2.18.

Throw: Ball jumps out of his hand with one of the more accurate arms we’ve seen in his class.

Defensive Projection: C.

Additional Comments: A bit raw but he has tools across the board that make him a high follow in class. A chance to be very physical with above average jump out of the hand and off the barrel.


Body Type: 6-foot-1, 170-pound athletic frame.
Swing Mechanics:  Leg kick that gets everything in sync well.
Hit: Downhill bat path that works inside the baseball, and goes to all fields.  Good feel in the box.  Creates backspin to the gaps.
Power: Flashed pop to the pull side with more to come.
Offensive Projection:  Top of the lineup guy.
Field:  At the catcher position, he has quick feet and a quick transfer with a slightly open stance.  Receiving skills are good while his blocking skills are still developing.
Throw: Has good arm strength with a short and compact arm slot.
Defensive Projection: C. 



Body Type: 6-foot-1, 168 pounds. Taller, lean athletic build.

Swing Mechanics: Starts out of an upright, stance showing a more level bat path in his swing.

Hit: Made great contact on many pitches he swung at staying through the ball well.

Power: 73 mph exit velocity. More left in his tank.

Offensive Projection: TBD for now.

Run: 7.73 seconds 60-yard.
Field: 1.99-2.09 second pop time. Received it well in his catching session with pop times and during bullpens. Showed a quicker release on the ball to hand transfer before throwing down to second base. Footwork is playable as he progresses his alignment with second base working the “T”.

Throw: 71 mph from behind the plate showing off arm strength. Accurate too.
Defensive Projection: Catcher.


2/17/19 Pitching

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 168 pound thin frame with room to add.

Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Loads into lower half with and throws with short, compact arm action.

Fastball: 72-77 mph. Filled the zone up. Stayed mostly straight.

Curveball: 62-64 mph. Developing pitch. 12-6 shape

Changeup: 66-69 mph. Filled the zone up and stayed mostly straight with cut at times.

Pitchability: Filled the zone up with fastball and change. Curveball is continuing to develop.

Additional Comments: With increased strength and better lower half mechanics, could see increase in velocity.

2/3/19 Position

Body Type: 6-foot-1 168-pound prospect.
Swing Mechanics:
Uses a leg kick load and is short to the ball with his hands. Barrel stayed in the zone well and his bat path was somewhat flat.

Hit: Good bat to ball ability. Line drive approach.

Power: 75 mph exit velocity.

Offensive Projection: Showed some promising signs in his swing. Good barrel control through the zone and decent athleticism. How he develops strength wise with his frame will dictate his long term offensive projection.
1.92-2.05 pop time. Showed a good exchange with average twitch to his movements. Footwork could improvements as his movements were a bit too big in general.

Run: 7.67 60 yard dash.

Throw: 71 mph from behind the plate.

Defensive Projection: Shows good raw ability behind the plate. As he develops physically he should become more efficient with his movements.

Body Type:
6-foot, 163-pound physical frame for class.
Hit: Righty swinger with upright setup. Simple, yet aggressive load, Compact stroke with a middle of the field approach. Ball comes of well.
Power: 80 mph exit velocity. Gap to gap pop.
Offensive Projection: Fringy skill set that could play as a table setter or run producer. How eh develops physically will likely decide future role.

Run: 7.79 60-yard dash.

Field: Registered pop times between 2.02-2.13. Well above catch/throw abilities for class.

Throw: 74 mph from the crouch. Ball comes out well with carry to second base. Big arm for age.

Defensive Projection: C.  


1/12/19 Pitching
Body Type: 6-foot, 163-pound physical frame for class.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Slower paced tempo with some effort. Transitions well from chest high leg lift into drop and drive type load. ¾ arm slot with average speed/strength for class. Tends to finish to first base line.
Fastball: 72-75 mph. Consistently in the zone with the offering. The pitch was mostly straight through the zone with some dip to arm side. Look for more velocity down the road.
Curveball: 62-63 mph. 11/5 shaped breaker with gradual action. Showed solid feel for the offering, consistently keeping it in the zone. Pitch showed a bit extra action to arm side.
Changeup: 68-70 mph. Changeup is also an above average offering. Maintains arm speed and controls the offering well. Similar action to fastball.  
Future Role: With his ability to locate three pitches he has a future starter look to him.  

A good athlete behind the dish with the frame for the spot. Pops out of his stance with quick footwork. Could do a better job of squaring himself to second during transfer. Ball comes out quickly and he shows above average arm strength for class. Pop times were also above average for his age. A physical bat from the right side. Uses a simple loading sequence, taking hands back during short stride for timing. Path is mostly level with slight downhill tendencies at times. Ball jumps when he finds the barrel. Run producer qualities in swing.
