Physical: Next level frame with advanced strength at 6-foot-2, 205lbs. 7.30 runner in the 60.
Offensively: LHH. Crouched, balanced stance at shoulder-width, as the hands started in-rhythm. Utilized a simple leg-lift stride to initiate the swing through an explosive, slightly uphill path into the hitting zone. Active rear hip that worked with effort to get involved early, flashing hip/shoulder separation on the turn. Produced consistent pull-side pop, up to a T94 mph bat-exit velocity and 343 foot distance. Middle of the order type.
Defensively: The first baseman is an adequate defender, setting up with a wide base and flat back at the touch. There’s the ability to clean up some glove-hand actions, flashing an accurate 72 mph across the dirt from a short H ¾ slot.
Offensively- the left handed hitter stands in the box in a tall stands. Short simple load actions. Throws his hands into the hitting zone. Gombita displayed hard consistent contact to the middle of the field. Defensively- Gombita worked out at 1B. Fields the baseball in a slight upward position and has low effort throwing actions. On the mound, the LHP displayed a balanced repeatable delivery. Drives downhill from a balanced backside. Gombita throws from a mid 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action. The 2023 graduate has a projectable frame and is a player to follow as he continues to develop.
Gombita ran a 8.33-60. Infield arm strength measured at 70-MPH, a 7-MPH increase from February. Fastball ranged from 69-71-MPH, maxing out at 71-MPH.
Gombita is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed first baseman and pitcher. Lanky frame with a long lower half. He ran a 8.15 60 and a 4.61 home-to-1B. Offensively- Starts shoulder width apart, knees bent and hands out from the body. Bat wraps around head on load. Some power pull side. Quick hands through the zone with short swing path; little to no extension after contact. 66 MPH exit velocity with results that play better. Defensively- Breaks down and receives well, gets around the ball and uses frame to cover ground off the bag. Throws over the top towards target. Active footwork that will improve with age. Arm strength at 63 MPH. Pitching- Starts in the middle of the rubber, chest. Separates well with a infielder type arm action. Falls off a little bit towards third base side through a collapsed front side. 67-68 MPH fastball with arm side run. Curveball breaks 11-5, keeps it low in the zone at 53-56 MPH.
