3/16/24
RHP Cameron St. John (Altoona, 2025) authored one of the loudest ‘pens our staff has seen this winter. The right-hander has impressed our staff before for his ability with his bat and is arguably more impressive on the mound. New to pitching, St. John showed advanced feel for the zone with all of his pitches, starting with his fastball that featured true four-seam action with ride through the zone and spun at an above-average rate at 2,313 RPMs. St. John also threw a tight-breaking slider that he was able to throw in the upper-70s to low-80s that looks to be able to generate swings-and-misses in game. St. John also threw a low-80s cutter that is a new pitch for him but showed feel to throw it in the zone with roughly 2.5 inches of cut to the pitch. While being new to the mound, St. John features a unique combination of athleticism, arm talent, and ceiling to make up one of the state's top pitching prospects no matter the class.

3/12/23

St. John made a loud statement throughout his round of BP, demonstrating some of the best raw power our scouting staff has seen in some time. His frame stands out immediately, boasting a physical 6-foot-4, 220-pound build, and he easily translates his present strength into the batter’s box. The right-handed hitter creates all sorts of power and jump off the barrel with quick hands and an uphill path, looking to lift the ball to his pull-side. St. John reached up to an astounding 105 mph for his max exit velocity, averaging 97.1 mph with a max distance of 400’. His BLAST metrics were also off the charts; averaging 27 mph for his hand-speed (T29.4 mph), 81.7 mph for his bat-speed (T86.3 mph) and 28.9 for his rotational acceleration (T31.9).

2/25/23

CIF Cameron St. John (Altoona, 2025) became a need-to-know sophomore in Wisconsin following his performance at the Green Bay ID. St. John’s booming round of batting practice was one of the loudest we can recall – and the loudest of this winter’s Preseason ID circuit, certainly. Listed at a strong, imposing 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, St. John still managed to run a 7.12 in the 60-yard dash, which is an excellent time for his age and even more impressive given his large stature. At the plate, the Altoona prospect registered a max batted distance of 400 feet which helps underscore the quality of contact he’s capable of generating. St. John averaged an exit velocity over 96 mph, with his hardest hit ball leaving the barrel at 105.0. His Blast Motion metrics were top-of-the-line as well, as the event leader in average bat speed (80.5 mph) and average rotational acceleration (28.3g). Defensively, his athleticism suggests he can continue to progress as a third baseman, and he has the arm strength for the position too, with throws topping 83 mph across. This sophomore looks like he might come close to cracking the top-10 rankings in the state’s 2025 class when we update our board next.
