Green Bay Preseason ID: Quick Hits
March 1, 2023
On Feb. 25, PBR Wisconsin hosted its latest event along the 2023 winter showcase circuit, the annual Green Bay Preseason ID at Impact Sports Academy in De Pere, Wis. Around 120 players made it out to this event, providing us with updated looks and a new list of prospects to follow in an area of Wisconsin that is becoming one of the most talent-packed in the state.
Today, we’ll be highlighting the players who stood out from the Green Bay area within this Quick Hits piece. Stay tuned throughout the week as we continue to break down the in-depth metrics measured at this event, with the help of our tech partners TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift, and Vizual Edge.
QUICK HITS
UNCOMMITTED 2023
+ 3B/RHP Mason Eckes (Andover, MN, 2023) made the trip from Minnesota on Saturday and was one of the few uncommitted seniors at the event. Listed at a physical 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, Eckes started his day off by tallying a 7.08 in the 60-yard dash which was good for top-20 in this talented event. He then moved over to the mound where out of an uptempo, tall and fall delivery, created fastball’s in the low-80s consistently. He was also able to throw in two offspeed offerings all around the zone. The first being a mid-70s slider with some late downer action, and the second a changeup with downer action that flashed occasional fade.
CLASS OF 2024
+ RHP Tavian Ramos (Neenah, 2024) may have been the biggest winner during our time in Green Bay. Ramos is a name who first burst onto the scene during the fall of 2022 where he put together a raw but impressive ‘pen, topping out at 86 mph while backed by alluring spin traits and peripheral metrics. Last Saturday, Ramos showed up boasting a thicker/stronger 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame that transferred over to his performance on the mound. It seemed like Ramos was hard at work this offseason and it showed, as he ran his fastball up to 91.1 mph and not a single fastball dipped below the 90 mph mark. Not only is the sheer velocity of this pitch impressive, but it plays even harder as he delivers it with some funk and he also has the ability to generate true backspin that leads to big spin rates, measured at nearly 2,400 rpm on average. Ramos’ innate ability to spin the baseball transfers well into his two other breaking balls: a 12/6 curveball and a slider with more horizontal break. The curve projects as a swing-and-miss offering that plays well next to his vertical fastball, and it spins at an average rate of nearly 2,900 rpm. The slider spins at an average rate of 2,844 rpm and it measured 23.8 inches of horizontal action at its peak, 73-75 mph. While he is still developing a changeup to round out his four-pitch mix, the weapons that Ramos currently possesses are already well above-average and yet he is still a raw prospect that has one of the highest ceilings in his class, and arguably the state.

+ We have long known 3B/SS Javin Gauthier (De Pere, 2024; Illinois State commit) to be a top prospect in the state’s ‘24 class and his performance at Green Bay backed that point up even more. It seems like Gauthier has added some more strength since our previous look at him as he now is built at a thicker 6-foot, 193 pounds. Gauthier started his day by running a 7.01 in the 60-yard dash and then followed it up with one of the top rounds of infield defense of the day. While manning the infield Gauthier showcased quality actions, with soft hands that make him a reliable defender. He pairs it with a strong arm that topped at 86 mph on his throws across the diamond, which point to him being able to stick on the left-side of the infield at the next-level. Then during the hitting portion of the event, Gauthier averaged an exit velocity of 89.9 mph, which was the third highest of the event, and his hardest hit ball came off at 94.6. It seems that with each and every look we get at Gauthier he continues to hit the ball for more power which enhances his overall prospect as a middle-of-the-order threat at the next level.
+ LHP Brady Koester (Kimberly, 2024) was a name our staff was excited to see after hearing about some of the gains he has made throughout the offseason, and his performance on Saturday was one of the day’s most memorable. Listed at an ultra-projectable 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Koester is an easy mover on the mound and he utilizes some simple, repeatable mechanics. As for his repertoire, he featured a straight fastball that averaged an induced vertical break of 16.1 inches, which reached highs of 89.1 mph and sat in the 85-88 mph range. He also was able to spin in both a slider and curveball for strikes. The curveball played with 12/6 action and he was able to manipulate it in the zone and also bury it below the zone effectively. His slider still played with some downer action but had slightly more horizontal movement when crossing home plate. He was also able to sell a quality changeup that maxed at 18.3 inches of horizontal movement, which rounds out his above-average four-pitch mix. With the projectability and overall stuff that Koester already possesses, there is a lot to like from this uncommitted arm and the ceiling is still very high for this southpaw.

+ RHP Avery Duncan (Notre Dame Academy, 2024) has made some massive leaps to his game since our previous look at him in the summer and he got to show them off during Saturday’s talented event. Now listed at a stronger 6-foot-2, 183 pounds, Duncan put together one of the top ‘pens of the entire event. On the mound, Duncan is an easy, athletic mover and couples it with a loose, quick arm that topped at 89.9 mph on his hardest bullet to the plate. One of our staff’s biggest takeaways from Duncan’s ‘pen was the advances he has made to his breaking ball as he showed the utmost control over it and it now has a sharper, 11/5 bite than previous looks. He also showed confidence and feel for a changeup with late fade/depth to round out his repertoire.

+ Former PBR Future Game participant, RHP/OF Brennen Grams (Kimberly, 2024) came out to Impact Sports Academy on Saturday where he continued to show off his high-end athleticism. To start his day, Grams registered the best 60-yard dash time of the event at 6.60, and his top run speed was 21.0 mph, which was another event high. He continued to show off his athleticism during his two jump mat tests, where he reached a jump power of 2,019 and a vertical jump of 36.9 inches, two more event-best measurements. Then during his ‘pen, he used his raw athleticism to sit in the 86-88 mph range with some rise/run traits through the zone. He also featured two breaking balls, a curveball and slider. Both have shorter action to them, but the slider does play off some sharper depth. He was also able to kill spin on his changeup that played with downer action and some fade. Grams is a next-level athlete with even more ceiling.
+ OF/RHP Easton Arendt (De Pere, 2024) made for another quality two-way look during Saturday’s event. To start his day, Arendt registered a 7.04 in the 60, which helps him easily cover ground while in the outfield, something we have seen from him multiple times in game as he patrols center field comfortably. Offensively, from the left-handed batter’s box, Arendt was all over the barrel during his round of BP, something that we have become accustomed to seeing from him over the years, and he recorded an average exit velocity of 86.8 mph, with his hardest coming off at 91.9 mph. He also showed some major promise on the mound during Saturday as he reached highs of 86.7 mph with his fastball and sat in the 85-86 mph range. He also showcased two offspeed weapons, the first being a late biting 11/5 breaking ball that he could land in the zone and the second a changeup with late fade/depth.

+ OF/RHP Sawyer Larson (Bay Port, 2024) is listed at a projectable 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and on Saturday he turned some heads after a quality round of BP. In the right-hand batter’s box, Larson uses his long, lanky levers to create bat speed (73.1 mph max) on his swings and he showed the ability to drive the ball from gap-to-gap. During his round, Larson registered a max exit velocity of 93.2 mph, and an average of 85.5, with his furthest ball traveling an estimated 324 feet. While in the outfield, Larson uses his 7.14 speed to easily move from side-to-side and pairs it with a strong arm that topped at 86 mph.
+ INF Aaron Heyroth (Notre Dame Academy, 2024) is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound infield prospect that showed well during our time in Green Bay. To start his day, Heyroth tallied a 7.07 in the 60-yard dash and this athleticism allows him to move all across the infield effortlessly. He paired this with clean actions and a strong arm that topped at 86 mph on his throws across the diamond. Offensively, Heyroth has fast hands and a direct path that created consistent backspin liners up-the-middle.
+ C/MIF Cal Casper (Bay Port, 2024) is listed at a strong 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, and he continues to show well on defense, especially. His pop times ranged between 1.93-2.07, and he recorded the highest velocity on his throws to second (77 mph). Casper has soft hands and fluid footwork, and both traits play well behind the plate and as a middle infielder. A right-handed hitter, he has a simple, short swing that helps him find the barrel while using the whole field efficiently. During batting practice, repeated line-drive contact consistently; max exit velocity of 90.9 mph and a max batted distance of 328 feet.
+ OF/RHP Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point Area, 2024) showed off some intriguing two-way potential during Saturday’s event. To start his workout, Nystrom recorded a 6.99 time in the 60-yard dash and followed it up with a quality overall ‘pen. Out of the stretch only, the righty works downhill well, and pairs it with a loose arm the created fastball highs of 82.8 mph. He also spun in a quality 12/6 breaking ball with sharp break that he was able to locate in the zone. Offensively, Nystrom utilizes a direct swing to hit line drives to all fields and created exit velocities up to 93.2 mph.
+ 1B/OF Bryson Koehne (Notre Dame Academy, 2024) has a physical appearance at a strong 6-foot, 205-pounds. In the box, Koehne works out of a wider base, slightly open setup and is aggressive towards the baseball with quick hands and an all-fields approach. Metrically, Koehne put together one of the best rounds of the day as he registered a max exit velocity of 98.9 mph and an average of 91.5 mph to all fields.
+ Making his PBR showcase debut, LHP Ethan Plog (Bay Port, 2024) is a name who our staff had been familiar with already prior to Saturday, as he’d previously shown well in live game settings across the summer’s tournament scene. Standing at a projectable 6-foot, 165-pounds, the southpaw features an uptempo, drop-and-drive delivery and he works in-line to home. His low ¾ arm slot helps him create a max of 17.1 inches of horizontal break on his fastball that topped at 86 mph, and sat in the 83-85 range. As for his offspeeds, is still developing some feel on a 1/7 breaking ball but he is able to spin it in the 2,200 rpm range, which is above-average. His best secondary is a changeup and he showed confidence in it as it played with late fade/depth.
+ OF/RHP Drew Van Oss (West De Pere, 2024) made for a good two-way look during Saturday’s showcase. Listed at athletic 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Van Oss started his day by running a 7.11 60-yard dash and then followed that up with a solid overall ‘pen. On the mound, Van Oss ran his fastball up to 85.3 mph and it played with life and carry through the zone, around 16 inches of induced vertical break on average. He was also able to spin in a 12/6 breaking ball at 2,500 rpm, and for strikes. To finish off his three-pitch mix, he showed feel for a firm changeup that he effectively killed spin on, with fade and late depth. Offensively, Van Oss sets up with a narrow base and utilizes some hand speed that allows him to drive the ball with some uphill loft to the middle and his pull-side. During his round he registered a max exit velocity of 92.7 mph. Overall, it was a quality showing on both sides of the ball from this two-way prospect and he is certainly an arrow up name as we head into the high school season.
+ At this same event last year, LHP A.J. Price (Neenah, 2024) was a name who was intriguing after recording some of the best outfield velocities of the day, though he looked somewhat raw on the mound at the time. Fast forward to this past Saturday, and Price showed up boasting a taller and more filled out frame at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, and during his ‘pen he showed off some of his newfound velocity. Price ran his fastball up to 85.1 mph and sat in the 83-84 range throughout. His curveball worked off a 1/7 plane effectively, and he mixed in a changeup that showed developing feel. To round out his four-pitch mix, Price threw a cutter that played with horizontal type movement. Price made his debut on our 2024 rankings late last year, and his arrow is pointed up heading into the spring.
+ MIF/RHP Payton Miller (Neenah, 2024) was an interesting two-way prospect at the event. Miller is listed at an athletic 5-foot-8, 155 pounds and he’s added some strength to his stature. He began the day by running a 7.13 in the 60-yard dash before the right-handed hitter showed a compact bat path that impacted the ball to pull-side. Defensively, he showed to be a reliable and smooth infielder with an accurate arm. He recorded a max infield velocity of 82 mph. During his bullpen he showed a quick and aggressive arm with a fastball that reached 81.6 mph on a straight four-seamer. His slider showed a 10/4 shape, and his changeup was thrown with fastball intent with sinking action. Miller is a competitive ballplayer that contributes in all kinds of ways in-game.
+ RHP Parker Bleck (Xavier, 2024) stands at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, with room for added physical development. During his ‘pen Bleck impressed with his stuff out of an easy arm action running his fastball up to 86.5 mph with hard arm-side run that reached 18.8 inches of horizontal break. He has four offspeed weapons in his arsenal, too: a sweeping 10/4 curveball, a tighter slider working off a similar plane, a sinking changeup, as well as a knuckleball.
+ MIF Carter Kallies (Bay Port, 2024) is an athletic junior who stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. Kallies started off his day by running one of the fastest 60s (6.92) before showcasing that athleticism on defense. Kallies showed off his range and his impressive arm which was up to 86 mph on his firmest throw over to first base, looking like a follow member of the state’s 2024 class in the process. During his round of batting practice, Kallies showcased a line-drive approach and the ability to drive the ball up the middle which will help him utilize his speed on the basepaths.
+ C Brady Coons (Kimberly, 2024) stands at a strong 5-foot-9, 175 pounds, and he put on an intriguing performance during our time in Green Bay. During his round of batting practice, Coons impressed with his overall bat strength and his ability to do damage at the plate. Coons recorded a max exit velo of 94.3 mph to go along with a max distance of 358 feet. Behind the dish, Coons showed feel for the position and athleticism out of the crouch which he used to record a low pop time of 2.07; throws topped 73 mph to second base.
CLASS OF 2025
+ CIF Cameron St. John (Altoona, 2025) became a need-to-know sophomore in Wisconsin following his performance at the Green Bay ID. St. John’s booming round of batting practice was one of the loudest we can recall – and the loudest of this winter’s Preseason ID circuit, certainly. Listed at a strong, imposing 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, St. John still managed to run a 7.12 in the 60-yard dash, which is an excellent time for his age and even more impressive given his large stature. At the plate, the Altoona prospect registered a max batted distance of 400 feet which helps underscore the quality of contact he’s capable of generating. St. John averaged an exit velocity over 96 mph, with his hardest hit ball leaving the barrel at 105.0. His Blast Motion metrics were top-of-the-line as well, as the event leader in average bat speed (80.5 mph) and average rotational acceleration (28.3g). Defensively, his athleticism suggests he can continue to progress as a third baseman, and he has the arm strength for the position too, with throws topping 83 mph across. This sophomore looks like he might come close to cracking the top-10 rankings in the state’s 2025 class when we update our board next.

+ There are few prospects in the region who boast the versatile, powerful profile that OF Trevor Vande Hey (Wrightstown, 2025) possesses. Vande Hey is currently ranked No. 7 in the state of Wisconsin for the class of ‘25, and he only enhanced his prospect stock at this event. Standing at a strong and athletic 6-foot, 195 pounds, Vande Hey began the day by running a 6.76 in the 60-yard dash, a stellar time that led all sophomores here made even more impressive when factoring in his broad and strong 6-foot, 195-pound build. At the plate, he was responsible for an impressive round of batting practice backed by equally impressive metrics. The right-handed hitter showed the ability to get to a strong hitting position, and his quick-twitch hands and natural strength allow him to impact the ball as a middle-of-the-order threat. He produced a max exit velocity of 103.1 mph, a max distance of 390 feet, an average hand speed of 26.9 mph, an event-high. He showed well in the outfield as well where he showed a quick arm with carry where he recorded a max velocity on throws to home of 91 mph, tied for the event-best.

+ RHP Loren Georger (Appleton West, 2025) was one of the most impressive arms we saw during our time in Green Bay. Currently ranked No. 17 in the class of 2025, Georger is listed at an athletic 6-foot-2, 172 pounds, and he has a projectable body with long levers. During his ‘pen, his fastball sat exclusively at 86-87 mph with quality spin, recorded at 2,226 rpm on average. The fastball is a weapon on its own, with an induced vertical break that maxed at 19.8 inches, which is impressive for an upper-80s four-seamer. His curveball showed 12/6 actions (16.4 inches of vertical break) and he showed the ability to locate it down in the zone, pairing well with his four-seamer. Georger also mixed in a changeup that showed mostly straight actions with developing feel.

+ SS Brayden Steinbecker (Manitowoc Lincoln, 2025) is another intriguing prospect in the class of ‘25. Standing at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Steinbecker has an athletic build with long levers that shows projectability. At the plate, the righty has a short path to the ball – showed line-drive ability into both gaps. He recorded a max exit velocity of 86.9 mph, though given his size, levers, and athleticism, his offensive profile is particularly projectable. On the defensive end, he showed off his athleticism and quick arm from both the outfield and infield positions. From the outfield he recorded a max velocity of 81 mph, and from the infield he recorded a max velocity across the diamond of 77 mph.
+ C Dimitry Edmunds (Appleton West, 2025) is a toolsy player who impressed our staff. Edmunds is listed at an athletic 5-foot-7, 170-pounds, with strength and good proportions. He began the day by running one of the better 60s at the event with a 6.86. During batting practice he showed impressive metrics with a max exit velocity of 93.7 mph, a max batted ball distance of 296 feet, and a max bat speed of 74.6 mph. Edmunds showed quick hands and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Defensively he showed athleticism, a quick arm, and high energy. On throw downs to second Edmunds recorded a max velocity of 74 mph; he recorded a max exit velocity of 81 mph on throws from the outfield.
+ RHP/OF Ian Aoki (Ashwaubenon, 2025) showed well all around at the event. He has a projectable body with good proportions standing at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. A right-handed hitter, Aoki is relaxed at the plate with a short bat path. He has strong and quick hands that produced a max exit velocity of 93.6 mph and a max bat speed of 80.9 mph. Defensively, he worked under control with a strong arm that reached a max velocity of 85 mph on throws to home. During his bullpen, his fastball sat 79-81, and he mixed in a curveball that showed 11/5 shape and flashed sharpness, and he rounded out his three-pitch mix with a changeup with depth. Aoki also ran a 7.15 in the 60-yard dash to underscore athleticism that plays across multiple areas.
+ INF Levi Mills (Home School, 2025) is a strong 6-foot-1, 185-pound, right-handed hitter. Mills created bat speed and hard contact to the pull-side and middle of the field during his round of BP. With his uphill plane, he had some of the loudest metrics of the day with a max exit velocity of 96.1 mph, a max distance of 351 feet, and a max bat speed of 76.9 mph. Defensively, he showed a quick arm that produced a max velocity across the diamond of 82 mph.
+ INF/RHP Sam Hoeft (Port Washington, 2025) was another sophomore who impressed our staff in Green Bay. The two-way prospect is listed at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, with long levers and a projectable build. In his bullpen, his fastball sat 83-85 mph with late tail finish through the zone. He showed a curveball that he can land for strikes with an 11/5 break, and a slider with short lateral break that he can land for strikes, too. During batting practice, he showed the ability to impact the ball gap-to-gap with quick hands that produced a max exit velocity of 89.8 mph, and a max batted ball distance of 331 feet. Defensively, he showed soft hands and quality actions. He recorded a max infield velocity of 79 mph.
+ From the Upper Peninsula, two Kingsford, Mich., sophomores made the trip south to Green Bay: RHP/INF Gavin Trevillian (2025) stands at an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pounds, and showed good proportions with strength throughout. This was the Michigan native’s first PBR event, and he impressed our staff. Trevillian showed an athletic and rhythmic delivery with a quick arm that helped his fastball sit 81-83 mph with late cut actions. His curveball showed 10/4 shape with the ability to land for strikes, and he threw a changeup that showed late depth and fade. MIF Garret Brown (2025) has a clean, efficient right-handed swing and he’s an above-average athlete as a 7.12 runner.
CLASS OF 2026
+ RHP/OF Carson Hawley (Bay Port, 2026) was a member of Team Wisconsin at last summer’s PBR Junior Future Games, and we were excited to see the two-way standout back in action over the weekend. Hawley currently checks in at No. 10 in the state’s class of 2026 rankings, now listed at an athletic and well-proportioned 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. He started the day by running a 7.32 in the 60-yard dash, and followed that up on the mound where we saw his fastball sit 81-83 mph (83.6 max). He mixed in a four-seam and two-seam fastball, the latter showing sinking action, the former projecting as a carry-type with life through the top of the zone. His curveball showed 11/5 shape that he threw with feel to locate. To round out his three-pitch mix, Hawley showed a changeup that had fade with late depth. Defensively, his athleticism works well in the outfield, and the arm plays naturally from there as well, reaching high throws of 88 mph to home. During batting practice, he showed hitterish tendencies with bat speed through the ball. He recorded a max exit velocity of 90.3 mph, a max batted ball distance of 315 feet, and a max bat speed of 70.7 mph. Hawley remains a high-follow two-way player in the state’s freshman class.

+ 1B/RHP Brett Biondich (Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 2026; Texas Christian) provided one of the loudest rounds of BP during our time in Green Bay, regardless of class. The right-handed hitter showed a big leg lift gather, advancing to center in a controlled move. He creates leverage on the ball with loud and powerful contact to all fields. He recorded a max exit velocity of 94.7 mph (85.2 mph average), and he projects as a power-type threat in the middle of any lineup. Defensively, he shows feel around the bag at first, and a strong arm with a recorded max velocity across the diamond of 81 mph. Biondich showed well on the mound, too, with a fastball that sat 82-84 mph with life and run through the zone. His curveball worked off an 11/5 plane in the zone that spins at an advanced rate, measured at 2,520 rpm on average; the changeup also has hard, late fade. Biondich was one of the first members of the state’s freshman class to make a verbal commitment, and he remains a top-ranked two-way player to monitor in Wisconsin.
Biondich also made for intriguing look on the mound during Saturday’s #GreenBayID.

+ INF/OF/RHP Matthew Hietpas (Appleton North, 2026) is another PBR Junior Future Games player who we were looking forward to seeing again at this event. Listed at an athletic 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Hietpas is an intriguing two-way prospect in the class of ‘26 who is currently ranked No. 12 overall in the state – which is saying something, considering this class has the makings of being a memorable one in the state’s history. During batting practice, Hietpas showed quick hands with direct contact through the ball. He recorded a max exit velocity of 94.0 mph (83.9 mph average), with some barrel feel for his age. From the infield, he recorded a max velocity across the diamond of 83 mph, and he showed smoothness in his actions; in the outfield, he recorded a max velocity to home of 85 mph from a quick release. On the mound, Hietpas’ talent is starting to shine brightest, and it’s where he reached an 86.4 mph high at this event, which leads all freshmen we’ve seen to this point in the winter. The fastball has life and arm-side run through the zone, and it leaves a complementary lower release height which should develop well as he continues to grow and mature. He spins his curveball at an above-average rate (2,264 rpm), and he has feel for the changeup as well. Consider him another high-follow two-way player to know in the Midwest’s freshman class.
Hietpas also made for a quality look on the mound during the #GreenBayID.
