New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard Podcast

LATHROP, CA. - Players were put through an extended pro-style workout that included the 60-yard sprint, a round of batting practice, defensive workouts at respective positions, and concluded with pitchers throwing bullpen sessions on the main diamond mound.

There was some MLB scout presence at the event and we live streamed the workouts all day on our https://pbr.sportschannel.media/ channel. The event stays archived there as well and in time we will edit the clips and label them so they can be more easily be digested.

We'll publish positional breakdowns and stats/data info in the coming days, but until then here is a brief look at some standouts from the weekend in Quick Hits.

Of note in the stats/data listed below, some players used wood bats, though most used BBCOR bat. The EV numbers were recorded by TrackMan during the live BP portion and also in a front toss session in the cage. The recorded stat for each player fairly reflects their cage front toss round and also what they did in live BP.

(Note: Players are listed in alphabetical order. All showcase videos will be added to player profiles in the near future, hopefully by the end of the first week in August.)

QUICK HITS:

John Paul Avila 3B / Carlmont, CA / 2021

R/R / 6-0 200 / 60 YD 7.14 / EV 95 / INF VELO 79

Physical player, intense/focused field presence, tools are there & as he tuns the raw tools into usable skills, there is a player waiting to emerge. Displayed strong glove skills.

Omari Barksdale OF / LHP / Serra, CA / 2021

R/L / 5-11 185 / 60 YD 7.04 / EV 93 / OF VELO 85

Performed as OF/LHP but it was OF workout that stood out w/potential beyond HS. Strong, powerful young man, a little raw but talent that can make an impact. Business-like approach.

Kolby Calia RHP / Deer Valley, CA / 2022

6-2 192 / FB 82-83 / SL 71-72 / CHG 76-79

With a sinking/running FB & darting SL, Calia showed at a minimum a 2-pitch reliever-type mix that can get college coaches excited. The SL showed as a swing/miss pitch.

Felix Dominguez RHP / Heritage, CA / 2021

6-2 180 / FB 83-86 / CB 70-71 / CHG 76-78

Flashed the type of raw arm strength that with continued development & work, can push him toward pitching in the upper-80s. Considerable CHG movement & downer CB shape.

Logan Drummond OF / LHP / Tokay , CA / 2021

L/L / 6-0 180 / 60 YD 6.83 / EV 94 / OF VELO 90 / FB 83-86 / CB 65-68 / CHG 74-77

All-around talent that frankly would have have fit at our ProCase for 2021 grads. Showed all the tools to be impact player beyond HS as well as mound talent that can evolve.

Christian Galvez SS / 3B / St. Francis, CA / 2022

R/R / 6-2 200 / 60 YD 7.15 / EV 91 / INF VELO 82

Strong & well-put together, he has the look of a college player & has tools that will play well beyond HS. Likely moves to 3B & will bring quality SS type skills to the position.

Matthew Halbach OF / RHP / Archbishop Mitty, CA / 2021

R/R / 6-3 190 / 60 YD 7.01 / EV 90 / OF VELO 85 / FB 83-85 / CB 75-76 / CHG 80-81

Showed talent as both position player and pitcher, bigger tools as position player but glimpses of the type of raw talent that suggests he's going to be heard from beyond HS.

Jeffery Heard OF / LHP / Valley Christian, CA / 2021

L/L / 6-1 185 / 60 YD 7.04 / EV 93 / OF VELO 82

Strong & powerful, his BP round was about as loud as any player present. Took one far over the RF fence toward end of his round. Mauling type swing w/hitterish presence.

Arjan Johal SS / OF / Jesuit, CA / 2022

R/R / 5-9 165 / 60 YD 6.97 / EV 87 / INF VELO 81 / OF VELO 86

Skilled player w/flashes of speed, defense, & bat talent that should get him on the field as a significant contributor in his junior season. Professional type approach & steady presence.

Sam Purgason 3B / RHP / Truckee, CA / 2022

R/R / 6-6 200 / 60 YD 7.21 / EV 95 / 3B VELO 84 / FB 83-85 / CB 67-68 / SL 71-74 / CHG 72-76

Long & athletic body, he's a powerful young man w/tools that give him serious presence in the box. Arm plays well across the diamond & on the mound there is potential too.

Timothy Reeve OF / RHP / Truckee, CA / 2021

R/R / 5-10 180 / 60 YD 6.95 / EV 94 / OF VELO 90 / FB 86-88 / CB 68-69 / CHG 78-80

Football type athleticism, eye-popping talents that fit among the top 2021 OFs in Northern CA. Quiet & short at the plate w/plus bat speed. Raw stuff on mound suggests a relief role.

Max Ross OF / St. Francis, CA / 2022

L/R / 6-1 175 / 60 YD 6.84 / EV 93 / OF VELO 83

Showed talents that put him among the top 2022 OFs in Northern CA. Strong & athletic, bat speed and strong hands. The arm strength is solid and should tick further upward.

Sebastian Schreiber LHP / Alisal, CA / 2021

6-2 218 / FB 85-87 / CB 70-71 / CHG 78-81

Physical presence on the mound w/durable burly body type. HEAVY fastball w/bat breaking type life. CB can tighten up & CHG a little hit & miss but it flashed above average.

Sergio Solis C / 3B / Central Valley, CA / 2021

R/R / 5-10 170 / 60 YD 7.78 / EV 87 / C VELO 78 /POPS 2.01-2.14

The all-around talents for a starting caliber college catcher are present & the exciting part is that he's still got positive developments ahead w/his physical conditioning.

Justin Trimble 1B / OF / Arroyo Grande, CA / 2021

L/R / 6-3 210 / 60 YD 7.00 / EV 100 / INF VELO 86 - UCSB commit

Long & strong body, along w/the L/R profile, are immediately attractive. Then the tools showed up, enough run, legitimate power potential, strong arm that can play at any corner.

Brendan Williams SS / 2B / Lincoln, CA / 2021

R/R / 6-0 170 / 60 YD 7.04 / EV 87 / INF VELO 84

Athletic & well-rounded skill set. Nothing flashy about him, rather, he showed tools that all can play at least as avg at the D1 level. Lean body, he's still got physical maturity ahead.

Brett Zimmerman 3B / SS / Gregori, CA / 2021

L/R / 6-1 180 / 60 YD 7.38 / EV 90 / INF VELO 81

Versatile LHH INFs are always sought after & after showing INF skills that could see him play 3B/2B/SS, even 1B, it's the smooth stroke & bat talent that will earn him his college opportunity.
