Top Prospects: Corner Infield Analysis

The inaugural Top Prospects Showcase took place on Wednesday, August 1st at O'Malley Field, home of the Harvard Westlake Wolverines. The event attracted over 100 players in the 2019 class many of whom are in our Class of 2019 Top 100 rankings. With over 20 colleges and seven (7) MLB clubs in attendance, the participants were put through a pro-style workout to showcase their abilities.

As part of our continuing coverage of the event we will continue to break down all the data, roll out stats, content, and videos from the event. In this edition we present the corner infielders analysis from the Top Prospects Showcase.

TOP PERFORMERS

Michael Snyder, 3B/SS, Harvard Westlake HS, 2019

At 6-foot-4, 205-pounds, Snyder is a long, lean, wiry strong athlete with broad shoulders and a strong lower half. The frame that can easily add weight and mass. Snyder has excellent instincts in anticipating his angles to the ball through his pre-pitch routine. His arm is a plus and able to make throws from all angles with accuracy and from multiple slots/angles. His throws show life. His glovework is consistent and his hands are softs while his transfers are clean. At the plate Snyder really projects because of his ability to drive the ball to all fields and his current power. He stays behind the ball and keeps his barrel on a consistent plane while maintaining his balance throughout his swing. His load is smooth and his stride short. Hands are fast while his swing is short to the ball and long through getting full extension. Snyder ran a 7.16 60 with an exit velocity of 88 mph and an infield velocity of 85 mph.

Jordan Dem, 1B/RHP, Oak Park HS, 2019

Six-foot-1, 210-pound frame that has strength evenly distributed throughout his body. Dem shows athleticism around the bag and is nimble for a player his size. Plays light on his feet and shows range to his right. Has present arm strength on throws that have some carry. Gathers balls out front with soft hands and shows clean transfers. Plays low and anticipates hops/directions well. At the plate the bat is explosive and his power is evident. Shows the ability to get backspin on the ball, especially to centerfield. Gets and keeps his barrel through the zone on a consistent and level path. Present gap-to-gap approach with pull-side power, Dem stays online through the ball while getting extension after contact with a balance setup and finish. Dem registered an 86 mph exit velocity off a tee.

Max Nyrop, 1B/RHP, Alameda HS, 2019

Six-foot-5, 205-pound, frame with broad shoulders and strength in the lower half. Nyrop's body can easily add mass and strength. Nyrop hammered balls to the pull-side and gaps in BP, and posted a 93 mph exit velocity off the tee. He has an athletic base with a tall upper body posture in his stance, utilizes a slight load back with his body over his backside and then uses quick hands to drive the barrel through the ball where he gets full extension. The power is easy and smooth. Hit a HR over the trees beyond left field and peppered the wall with several other hits. On the bump, Nyrop has a quick arm from a high ¾ slot that generates big time downhill plane. Shows good balance with easy effort while staying inline to the target and finishing in an athletic position. Curveball shows plus potential with its shape and break. Shows feel for a changeup. Once he develops the comfort in driving his lower half he should see a huge bump in velocity.

Robert Weiskittel, 1B/3B, Trabuco Hills HS, 2019

Six-foot-1, 225-pounds, athletic frame with a strong lower half, broad shoulders and room for additional strength. Weiskittel shows athleticism around the bag at first base where he is light on his feet while playing low to the ground. His arm is accurate and his glovework excellent. Plays through the ball when charging and is able to make throws from multiple angles. Weiskittel pounded an 85 mph exit velocity off the tee and shows some power at the plate especially to the pull-side. Keeps his weight back and has a short stride through swing while generating his power from a strong upper half. Stays balanced throughout the swing. Weiskittlel pounded a home run to left field during his BP round.

Justin Bailey, 3B/2B, Trabuco Hills HS, 2019

Five-foot-10, 175-pounds, athletic, proportionally distributed strength throughout the body. Bailey registered a 90 mph exit velocity off the tee and that power carried over to his BP session where he pounded balls to the gaps as the ball jumped off his barrel. Bailey has quick hands through the zone and is explosive at contact. He is strong and powerful and does an excellent job of keeping his hands inside the ball and flashes present bat speed. He keeps his barrel on plane through the hitting zone and gets extension after contact. Defensively Bailey has enough arm to play 3B but really projects as a power hitting 2B on the next level. His actions are smooth and his footwork fluid. Shows the ability to make throws from multiple angles with clean exchanges. Bailey clocked a 7.22 60 and registered a 79 mph infield velocity.

David LeBioda, 1B/OF, Aliso Niguel HS, 2019

Six-foot-4, 235-pounds, strong, muscular, proportional strength through the body. LeBioda looks like a tight end in football and shows the athleticism of one on the diamond. He's a very good athlete with excellent footwork and mobility. LeBioda has a strong, accurate arm that is capable of making throws from multiple angles. At the plate LeBioda has all the traits of a power hitter with present plus power to center and right fields. He takes healthy hacks from a balanced setup and shows a smooth, quiet load and a short stride. He is short to the ball and long through it getting full extension after explosive contact. Does a fair job of incorporating his lower half into his swing. LeBioda registered an 85 mph exit velocity off the tee and ran a 7.34 60 yard dash.

Dominick Tello, 3B/SS, Arcadia HS, 2019

Six-foot-1, 175-pounds, long, lean, wiry strong frame with squared shoulder, long limbs and a high waist. Body has lots of room for growth with continued physical maturity. Tello is a slick fielding left-side of the infield player that shows soft hands and fair arm strength with the ability to throw from multiple angles on the field. Tello is aggressive in attacking balls and throws with accuracy on the run. The arm plays way up because of its accuracy. At the plate Tello shows quick hands and some sneaky pull side power with a middle-middle approach from a balanced setup. Does a fair job of incorporating the lower half after using a leg kick stride. Gets extension through the ball after contact. Tello ran a 7.37 60 yard dash and registered an 80 mph exit velocity off the tee. Tello really projects as an athletic left-side of the infield player once his body fills out.

Joey Gould, 3B/OF, North Torrance HS, 2019

Five-foot-9, 175-pounds, strong, muscular frame with well defined lower half and strength in upper half. Gould shows power at the plate with a consistent middle-left approach and sneaky power in the bat. He's short to the ball and long through it while staying behind the ball well. Does an excellent job of incorporating his back hip into the swing to generate power. Gets and keeps his barrel in the hitting zone on a consistent plane with fast hands. On the dirt Gould shows an excellent first step while anticipating angles well. The backhand is good as is the accurate arm which is capable of making throws from multiple angles. Gould ran a 7.34 60 yard dash and registered an 83 mph exit velocity off the tee.

Adrese Azzani, 1B/RHP, Miramonte HS, 2019

Six-foot-4, 175-pounds, long, lean, wiry strong, long-limbed, high waist, large feet. Frame has plenty of room for added weight and mass. Azzani is a smooth fielding first baseman that plays lows and is aggressive to the ball. Shows athleticism and plays light on his feet around the bag. Arm is accurate and he shows the ability to make throws from multiple angles. The bat really projects for Azzani where he is strong and balanced throughout. Consistently squares balls up and shows over-the-fence power presently which should only improve as body develops more. Azzani shows fast hands and a consistent barrel path. Gets full extension after explosive contact. Azzani registered a 93 mph exit velocity off the tee giving an indication of his power potential once fully grown.

Matthew Swartz, 1B/LHP, Edison HS, 2019

Six-foot-4, 230-pounds, big, physical, muscular frame. Strength is evenly distributed throughout the body with lower half being well defined. Swartz shows a middle-opposite field approach with projectable power. Sprays balls to all fields and flashed some pull-side power on a couple hits. Uses a short leg kick to generate his power from a balanced setup. Power really projects in the future as he continues to play more baseball after giving up football just last year. Swartz shows some athleticism on the infield where he aggressively plays balls in front of him. His footwork is fluid and his exchanges are clean. Arm is accurate on throws but can get a little long on him. Swartz registered an 84 mph exit velocity off the tee and a 76 mph position velocity.

Wyatt Wiseman, 1B/LHP, Rancho Cucamonga HS, 2019

Six-foot-1, 215-pounds, athletic frame with a strong lower half, broad shoulders and room for additional strength in the upper body. Wiseman shows athletic actions around the bag at first base where he is light on his feet and plays low. His arm is accurate and quick while his glovework is smooth and his hands soft. Plays through the ball when charging and is able to make throws from multiple angles. Wiseman shows an athletic setup with a smooth load and a toe-tap trigger that initiates his swing. He flashes pull-side, line-drive power and over-the-fence power potential. His timing is excellent and maintains his barrel on a consistent path through the hitting zone. Wiseman registered an 89 mph exit velocity off the tee.
