SCHAUMBURG, IL – The 4A Schaumburg Super Sectional hosted two games on Monday night with New Trier and Crystal Lake South advancing to state.

Game 1: New Trier 4 South Elgin 3

In the first game of the day New Trier held off a late South Elgin rally for a 4-3 victory.

The Trevians scored in the bottom of the second on a two run homer from Northwestern commit Anthony Calarco. New Trier added two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Donahue and an RBI single from Cam Redding.

New Trier starter Thomas Nugent kept South Elgin off balance most of the game allowing just one run over 5.2 innings of work. In the sixth Nugent ran into some trouble allowing a double to Kevin Barry and two walks to load the bases with two outs. Sean Douaire come in relief and struck out Patrick Keaty to end the threat.

Two Trevian errors in the top of the seventh lead to two runs for South Elgin. Kevin Barry came through with a two out RBI double to get the Storm to within a run. Douaire got Adam Walker to pop up on the infield to end the game.

Game 2: Crystal Lake South 6 Mundelein 2

Mundelein jumped on South starter Andrew Engelking in the top of the first scoring two runs on a double from Steven Sanchez. That was all the runs the Mustangs would get in the game. South answered right back in the bottom of the first with two runs highlighted by an RBI triple from Nick Wolski.

The Gators put the game out of reach in the fifth when they scored four times thanks to two hits and two errors. Brian Fuentes came up with runners at the corner and one out and delivered an RBI ground rule double to give the Gators the lead for good.
